According to recent updates, Embracer Group has made some adjustments in its top management team. The co-founder, Lars Wingefors, is stepping down from his role as CEO and moving into the position of Executive Chair on the Board. Taking over as CEO will be Phil Rogers. At present, Kicki Wallje-Lund serves as the chairperson of the board. With these changes, she will now assume the position of Deputy Chair of the Board.
The transformations won’t happen right away. Instead, Phil Roger’s term as CEO of Embracer will commence on August 1st. Concurrently, Wingefors will no longer be a part of the executive management team at the company on that same day, and will assume the role of board chair on September 18th.
In a statement released recently, Wingefors expressed gratitude for his time as CEO of Embracer Group, acknowledging the valuable years and lessons he’s garnered during that tenure. Despite the occasional twists and turns on the journey, he is immensely proud of the remarkable accomplishments made by our skilled teams, which have crafted exceptional gaming experiences for all to enjoy. This new phase enables him to concentrate on strategic ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and smart investment decisions, thereby fostering Embracer’s ongoing prosperity and continued growth.
As a dedicated follower, I’m more certain than ever that our finest moments lie ahead. Working hand-in-hand with Phil for several years now, I have unwavering faith in his talents. I eagerly anticipate our ongoing close partnership to fortify our business and generate value over the coming years.
In addition to these updates, Embracer has disclosed some leadership reshuffling within Coffee Stain Group. Anton Westbergh, who serves as CEO of Coffee Stain Group, and Wingefors will assume director roles in the company. Jacob Jonmyren, a current board member at Embracer, is set to take on the position of chair for Coffee Stain Group’s board. Moreover, Erik Sunnerdahl, the current group finance director at Embracer, has been appointed as the new CFO for the newly spun-off company.
Back in May, Embracer revealed their plans to separate Coffee Stain Group and make it an independent entity. Consequently, the remaining portion of Embracer (formerly known as Middle-Earth & Friends) is now going to be called Fellowship Entertainment.
Following this transition, Coffee Stain Group gained approximately 250 employees across their development and publishing departments. The company has now taken control of development studios like Coffee Stain, Tuxedo Labs, and Ghost Ship. Notably, IPs such as Deep Rock Galactic, Satisfactory, Goat Simulator, Valheim, and Teardown, among others, have been integrated into the Coffee Stain Group’s portfolio.
Westbergh expressed his immense pride for everything constructed within Embracer over the years, along with gratitude for the unwavering support and trust bestowed upon them. As they embark on this new journey towards becoming an independently traded company, he conveyed a mix of excitement and admitted a touch of apprehension – in a positive sense.
According to Wingefors, Coffee Stain Group possesses exceptional skills, intellectual properties, and communities. So far, this has been the secret ingredient for their success. I have faith in Anton’s strategy and leadership abilities, and I believe there is a substantial long-term advantage in forging partnerships with independent game developers who share our vision.
