Previously, Embracer Group AB had grown so large that it was on the brink of collapse, with only a limited number of choices remaining. In an effort to steer towards more profitable directions, Embracer decided to divest several labels and studios from its collection. As of February 2025, Embracer has parted ways with Asmodee, and it has now revealed its plans for the restructuring of its business that heavily relies on The Lord of the Rings.
Starting today, Embracer Group is rebranding itself as Fellowship Entertainment, intending to delve into various commercial and multimedia projects based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. This encompasses licensing deals, comic books, merchandise, movies, video games, and numerous other ventures. It’s important to note that this shift aims to preserve rather than dilute the essence and significance of the late author’s literature, which has been carefully managed by Christopher Tolkien and the Tolkien estate.
Fellowship Entertainment will continue to hold the rights to notable video game franchises such as Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro, Dead Island, Darksiders, Tomb Raider, and numerous others. This conglomerate will encompass studios like 4A Games, Aspyr Media, Crystal Dynamics, Dambuster Studios, Dark Horse, Gunfire Games, Limited Run Games, Middle-earth Enterprises, THQ Nordic, Tripwire Interactive, Warhorse Studios, and several others.
By the year 2025, I’m thrilled to share that Coffee Stain Group is set to break off as a standalone entity. This new venture will encompass the brilliant minds behind Coffee Stain, Ghost Ship, Tuxedo Labs, and a few studios from Amplifier Game Invest. This move allows Coffee Stain to continue showcasing their prowess with some of their major and award-winning titles, such as Deep Rock Galactic, Goat Simulator, and Satisfactory, which will remain in their esteemed portfolio.
The responsibility for the destiny of Middle-earth has been passed to Fellowship Entertainment. However, this isn’t the conclusion of the journey. Renameing the brand simply indicates a new direction that various production companies might follow.
