As a seasoned observer of the fashion industry and a self-proclaimed connoisseur of romantic entanglements, I must say that the latest images from Emily in Paris have me intrigued and slightly concerned.
Emily is about to become an American in Rome.
Indeed, up until now, the first three and a half seasons of “Emily in Paris” have shown Lily Collins’ character Emily navigating romantic triumphs and disappointments in the heart of Paris. However, the recently unveiled trailer for season four’s second part suggests that our beloved American character will soon be venturing into Italy.
And with a new locale comes, naturally, a new potential love interest. But let’s rewind.
Initially, during the first half of season four, Emily opted for Lucas Bravo’s character, Gabriel, over Lucien Laviscount’s Alfie, whom she had been uncertain about for two entire seasons. However, their choice doesn’t guarantee a lifetime of unending bliss.
In the second preview, it’s revealed that Camille (portrayed by Camille Razat) is carrying Gabriel’s child. In a scene shown in the trailer, Emily voices her concern to him, saying, “You will always choose her over everyone else. I can’t be the one who keeps you from your family.”
When the chance to journey to Rome on company business, with the goal of winning over the charming Eugenio Franceschini (Agence Grateau’s Marcello) for our team, becomes available, it certainly piques one’s interest.
However, while Emily hesitates to depart from Paris, her dear friend Mindy (Ashley Park) encourages her: “Why not try something unexpected, daring, and unlike you for a change? Indulge in some spontaneity, take a risk, embark on an adventure.”
Since it’s been pointed out by Sylvie (played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Emily excels at blending professional responsibilities with leisure activities.
Here’s my take on paraphrasing the given sentence in first-person perspective as a lifestyle expert:
It appears that Emily is adopting the idea of “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Marcello advises her, “Given you’ll be here just for a short time, there’s much to explore.”
Meanwhile, in Rome, Emily and her charming guide are cruising around on their Vespa, while back in Paris, her absence is causing quite a stir. And just like the trailer suggests, it seems that many paths ultimately converge on Rome.
Soon enough, Emily finds herself faced with her past, while she savors Rome’s attractions and indulgences, courtesy of Marcello.
“So,” Marcello begins, “which city do you prefer? Paris or Roma?”
However, the response Emily gives to the crucial question – one with potential implications for both her career and love life – will be revealed only in part two, which is set to air on September 12.
In the meantime, keep reading for a look back at the first half of season four.
Eugenio Franceschini portrays the character of Marcello, a native Roman who is straightforward, self-assured, and appreciates a simple lifestyle. He is substantial yet not ostentatious, reflecting the authentic values of his family’s business lineage.
Thalia Besson takes on the role of Genevieve, a 20-something daughter from one of Laurent’s past relationships. She recently relocated from New York City to Paris to kickstart her career. Her lively, enthusiastic attitude quickly wins over Emily, who’s delighted to guide an American expat. However, their shared traits could potentially create difficulties for Emily – issues that might impact her professional and personal life.

Leave it to Emily to prove winter fashion can be as head-turning as it is practical.
As I observe Emily and Gabriel sharing laughter and camaraderie over drinks with their friends, it’s apparent that their bond is growing stronger by the day – making for an enjoyable and warm atmosphere all around.
1. The collection that appears historical could possibly gain more clarity with the additional details found in season four. Alternatively, it’s simply characteristic of Emily to behave as she does.
From the looks of this, it doesn’t look like things have thawed between Camille and Emily.
Meanwhile, Emily and Alfie look rather comfortable for being recently broken up.
As a keen observer, I can’t help but ponder the origin of Sylvie’s cryptic gaze – is it admiration, mirth, or apathy perhaps? Only time will reveal the answer.
