Emily in Paris star isn’t sure he wants to return for season 5 – unhappy with character’s journey

As a devoted fan of Emily in Paris, I must admit that hearing Lucas Bravo’s sentiments about his character Gabriel has left me feeling somewhat crestfallen. It’s disheartening to learn that an actor who brought such vibrancy and charm to the screen may not return for another season due to dissatisfaction with the character’s journey.

It appears that one of the main characters from Emily in Paris may not appear when the show returns for its fifth season on Netflix, as we currently know.

Lucas Bravo, the French actor portraying significant character Gabriel since the show’s inception, has shared his feelings about the series with IndieWire. In a recent interview, he expressed dissatisfaction regarding the path Gabriel’s character has taken.

He shared: “The ‘sexy chef’ was deeply connected to my character in the first season, but as the seasons progressed, we grew increasingly distant due to the decisions he made and the paths they put him on. I find myself further removed from his persona now more than ever. In the first season, there were many similarities between us.

However, since they kept him largely disoriented about his environment, unaware of the ongoing situations, constantly portraying him as a victim and translating him in ways that obscured his true essence, leaving him clueless to everything around him while he was being manipulated by all, it felt less enjoyable for me to capture or watch a beloved character, who had given me so much joy, gradually transform into a pulp.

“I really grew apart from him.”

Bravo mentioned that he attempted to provide suggestions about his character’s storyline when appropriate, but admitted, “There are only so many things I can influence within the confines of a script.

As a devoted film critic, I’ve consistently strived to add depth and subtlety in my reviews, yet the creative constraints on-set are unyielding. Words and emotions are set in stone, leaving little room for improvisation. The directors know exactly what they want, and it’s our duty to deliver as expected.

“It makes me question if I want to be part of season 5 […] because my contract ends at season 4.

I’m eagerly hoping that Gabriel will return to his lively, mischievous, spirited, vivacious persona. After three seasons portraying a character who seems consistently melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost, I find it less enjoyable.

This situation seems comical. Everyone appears to be enjoying themselves, bouncing about, while I’m gradually getting lost in some unknown circumstances.

As I sat down to review this captivating series, I found myself at odds with its predictable trajectory. Despite my deep-seated affection for the show and the broader acclaim it has garnered for me, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that the narrative would always adhere to a predetermined course.

He mentioned that they are incredibly careful about not altering the original recipe, ensuring it remains as it always has been. Any deviation from the plan is meticulously corrected.

There are numerous soufflés here, but I’m not actually pregnant; it was a false positive result. I’m not going to Rome, I’m returning. There are many similar situations like this. The issue at hand is a lack of risk.

He said: “It brought me back to that innocent time where I discovered this amazing world.”

Watch the first four seasons of Emily in Paris right now on Netflix, available for as little as £4.99 per month. Additionally, you can enjoy Netflix on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.
