Eminem Sings for the Moment With Jaw-Dropping 2024 VMAs Performance

As a long-time admirer and observer of pop culture, I can confidently say that the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have always been a vibrant, unpredictable, and iconic event in the music industry. From Beyoncé’s pregnancy announcement to Justin Bieber’s snake moment, these moments have left an indelible mark on our collective memory.

Eminem is back, back again on the VMAs stage.

2024 saw the legendary hip-hop figure, known as Eminem, initiate the MTV Video Music Awards held in New York on September 11. True to form, he delivered an electrifying performance of “Houdini” and “Somebody Save Me”, making it his debut televised act promoting his twelfth studio album titled The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).

51-year-old artist, who dropped “The Death of Slim Shady” in July, appeared at the UBS Arena sporting a platinum blonde wig and accompanied by several individuals resembling Eminem, echoing his 2000 VMAs performance of “The Real Slim Shady,” where he orchestrated a similar spectacle.

Afterward, he switched his wig for a black baseball cap while performing an emotional version of his song “Somebody Save Me,” featuring Jelly Roll, where he makes mentions of his daughter Hailie Jade, who is now 28 years old.

Some notable artists set to perform are Megan Thee Stallion, who is also the host for the event, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Lenny Kravitz, and Shawn Mendes. Additionally, Katy Perry will add some sparkle with a medley of her hits before receiving the esteemed Video Vanguard Award.

Speaking of the “Houdini” rapper, he entered the night with eight nominations, including Video of the Year. However, his history with the VMAs goes way back to 1999, where he made his debut at the awards and won Best New Artist. Since then, he has amassed a grand total of 67 VMA nominations, trailing only behind Madonna in terms of career nods, with a tally of 13 wins overall. He holds the record for the most Moon Persons among rap artists and is tied with Peter Gabriel among all male artists; if he were to win just one award this year, he would surpass Gabriel and hold the record alone.

2022 marked my last electrifying performance on the VMAs stage alongside rap royalty Snoop Dogg in the metaverse. However, I can’t forget the time I kicked off the show in 2010, storming the stage with my anthemic hit “Not Afraid.” The night took a turn for the better when the captivating Rihanna joined me to perform our duet “Love the Way You Lie.

Backstage, Eminem co-parents Hailie, Alaina (31), and Stevie (22) with my ex-wife Kim Scott. In his song “Temporary,” from his Death of Slim Shady album, he pays tribute to Hailie, who tearfully confessed on her Just a Little Shady podcast that she cried out loud the first time she heard it.

Looking back on my childhood, I didn’t fully understand the difficulties we faced, but now as a grown woman, it’s chilling to contemplate those times. It makes me wonder how close we came to a different reality, given my father’s struggle with addiction and his eventual sobriety in 2008. I believe that’s why I react so emotionally when I think about it.

It’s hard to overlook the instance when Rage Against the Machine bassist, Tim Commerford, publicly showed his annoyance after the band lost an award to Limp Bizkit by storming the stage and climbing a display tower. While viewers only saw this brief incident on TV because the network switched to commercial break, in actuality, Tim’s night was far from over as he was arrested and spent the night in jail.

Interestingly enough, the Kanye West-Taylor Swift incident wasn’t the only spontaneous moment that occurred during the 2009 show. Following the well-known interruption, Lil Mama unexpectedly joined Jay-Z and Alicia Keys during their performance of “Empire State of Mind” without prior planning.

In a memorable performance, the artist known as the “Material Girl” sang “Like a Virgin” as she playfully rolled across the stage wearing a pristine white wedding gown.

In keeping with his infamous, vulgar image, the Radio Host made an entrance fittingly crude even by his standards, descending onto the stage disguised as a comic book character aptly named Flatulence Man.

In one of the most well-known rock music controversies, there was a heated confrontation between the two individuals. At the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards, emotions ran deep behind the scenes, where Courtney Love, Cobain’s wife and mother to their daughter Frances Bean, goaded Rose. This provoked Axl Rose from Guns N’ Roses to threaten Kurt Cobain, saying he would physically attack him if he didn’t stop his “nuisance.” In response, Kurt Cobain sarcastically retorted, “Quiet, nuisance!” to Love.

Following his stage appearance with the band Nirvana, their drummer, Dave Grohl, repeatedly said “Hi, Axl!” into the microphone.

Immediately following their wedding ceremony, the newlyweds strolled onto the stage hand-in-hand, prompting applause from the audience. After Jackson expressed his joy at being there and remarked that many had doubted their relationship would endure, he and Elvis Presley’s daughter exchanged a kiss and departed the stage.

The songstress won the award for Best New Artist in a Video, but used her acceptance speech as an opportunity to speak out against Hollywood, telling viewers, “This world is bulls–t.”

During the presentation of the Best Hip-Hop Video award, the renowned artist unintentionally touched Lil’ Kim’s exposed left shoulder. (Assuming no other part of her body was exposed)

Without forgetting, the famous pop star made an indelible impression as she performed “I’m A Slave 4 U,” while a snake adorned her shoulders.

Caught up in the heat of a musical spat between Eminem and Moby, I found myself chuckling backstage at the VMAs as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog took aim at Moby’s feud. With a witty jab, he roasted the artist live for all to see. When it came time to poke fun at Eminem, however, the comedian found him not in the mood for laughter.

Later on, Eminem stepped onto the stage to receive the accolade for Best Music Video for Men, and during his speech, he mentioned, “For a brief moment, that young woman resembling Moby disrupted my focus.

At the start of the performance, Britney Spears, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera collaborated on a version of “Like a Virgin” and “Hollywood.” Their act concluded with a sensational kiss shared by the three women, generating headlines.

The popular pop star graced the VMA stage once more, but her rendition of “Gimme More” didn’t receive favorable reviews.

The rapper rushed onto the stage as Taylor Swift received the award for Best Female Video, believing Beyoncé’s video was one of the greatest ever made. Later, when Beyoncé won Video of the Year, she invited Taylor Swift to share the stage with her, allowing her to savor the moment too.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I couldn’t help but notice Lady Gaga stealing the show at the awards ceremony with her iconic meat gown by Franc Fernandez, making her the undeniably standout star of the evening.

The popular singer revealed that she and Jay-Z are going to have their first child as a couple, showcasing her growing belly on the red carpet and concluding her rendition of “Love On Top” by setting down her microphone and gently touching her baby bump.

Justin Bieber experienced a ‘snake moment’ of his own during the show, as he introduced a baby boa constrictor named Johnson.

Hannah Montana, the character or the actress behind it, seems to be a thing of the past. She made quite an impression on MTV history by dancing her heart out on “We Can’t Stop” and teaming up with Robin Thicke for a rendition of “Blurred Lines”.

In an exhilarating moment at the award ceremony for Best Hip-Hop Video, as I stood triumphant over “Anaconda,” I found myself face-to-face with Miley, our host. Our relationship had been strained due to some less-than-friendly remarks she’d made about me in an interview with The New York Times. In a moment of raw emotion, I couldn’t help but call her out, labeling her as “one tough cookie” and posed the question, “What’s cookin’, good lookin’?

Towards the close of his extended Video Vanguard acceptance speech, the rapper made an unforgettable proclamation about his intention to contest for presidency in the year 2020.

In a news-making moment, the rapper expressed his longstanding affection for the songstress during the presentation of her 2016 Video Vanguard Award. Addressing the crowd, he shared, “I’ve been in love with her since I was 22.

Following Camila Cabello’s departure, the girl group made headlines worldwide as they started their performance with an illusion of a fifth band member apparently falling from the stage.
