It is a truth universally acknowledged that Emma Thompson‘s talents know no bounds.
It turns out that the actor from “Love Actually” covertly collaborated on a well-known scene in the 2005 film “Pride & Prejudice”. In this movie, Elizabeth Bennet (played by Keira Knightley) and Charlotte Lucas (portrayed by Claudie Blakley) had a heated argument about the latter’s engagement to Mr. Collins (Tom Hollander), as revealed by director Joe Wright.
In an interview with People, published on April 22, Wright mentioned that he fondly recalled the Charlotte scene. Deborah Moggach, he said, had penned the script exceptionally well. Furthermore, Emma Thompson stepped in to contribute to some of the dialogue.
As per the director, it was during a consultation with Thompson (award-winning screenwriter of the 1995 film “Sense and Sensibility”) that the idea for the final scene emerged. This brainstorming session took place as they strolled through the iconic Hampstead Heath park in London.
According to Wright, he followed her while she led the way, and eventually at the peak of a hill, she told him to take a seat on a nearby bench and retrieve a notepad. She then spontaneously acted out the situation as Wright jotted down her actions.
He added, “She was acting out two roles, and when she faced me and declared, ‘Please don’t pass judgment on me. Absolutely not, don’t judge me,’ it came close to making me tear up.
Approximately twenty-five years after its initial airing, the significant scene has become widely popular on social media platforms like TikTok. Notably, the dialogue—which includes Charlotte remarking, “I’m 27 years old. I have no money and no prospects. I’m already a burden to my parents and I’m frightened”—is regularly employed by TikTok users to celebrate their 27th birthday.
Reflecting on it now, Wright stated that the concepts presented in the Jane Austen adaptation remain “psychologically valid.
Wright clarified, “It was the reason people connected with them back then and continue to do so today. We can still identify with Charlotte as she stands contemplating her life and making difficult decisions.

Inspired By: The 2021 novel by Emily Henry with the same title
Cast: Tom Blyth, Emily Bader, Lucian Laviscount, Jameela Jamil, Lukas Gage, and Sarah Catherine Hook
Premieres: TBD on Netflix
What’s Got Us Pumped: In recent years, Henry has made a significant impact in women’s literature. It was only a matter of time before her novels were adapted for the big screen. With impressive performances in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and My Lady Jane, Blyth and Bader have shown they might be ideal choices for portraying Alex and Poppy.
From My Perspective: I’m absolutely hooked! The upcoming Apple TV+ series, titled the same as Marissa Stapley’s 2021 book, boasts an incredible lineup of stars like Anya Taylor-Joy, Drew Starkey, Annette Bening, Timothy Olyphant, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. The premiere date is yet to be announced, but with a plot revolving around a young woman rekindling her past as a con artist for a brighter future, it’s already got me on the edge of my seat! Add to that Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine producing this masterpiece and an exceptional supporting cast, and I can hardly wait!

With such a stellar lineup, especially given Kidman’s track record in critically acclaimed shows like “Big Little Lies,” “Nine Perfect Strangers,” and “The Undoing,” we are eagerly anticipating this show. The fact that the Oscar winners will portray crime-fighting sisters has already catapulted it to our top pick for the year’s best new series.

With his unique knack for gothic horror, we have no doubt that his vision, set to unfold at Netflix after almost two decades, will be unparalleled.

Featuring: Tessa Thompson, Jon Bernthal, Pablo Schreiber, Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani, and Rebecca Rittenhouse (in main roles)

Based on: Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel
Release Date: February 13, 2026
Starring: Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie
Reason for Our Anticipation: Get ready to hear the haunting tunes of Kate Bush, as we’re returning to the mystical moors! Filmmaker Emerald Fennell is reuniting with her team from the movie ‘Saltburn’. Timothée Chalamet starred in it and Robbie did the producing. Together, they’re bringing us a unique portrayal of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff that has never been seen before.
Based On: Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name
Starring: Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub
Release Date: March 20, 2026
Why I’m Thrilled: Gosling made history by venturing into space, but his newest adventure finds him reviving from a coma as the lone survivor in an exploration of the Tau Ceti solar system, a whopping 12 light-years distant from Earth. Things take a turn for the challenging now that he’s on his own and must carry on with his mission to counteract solar dimming and prevent human extinction. No big deal!
Based On: Suzanne Collins’ forthcoming book of the same name
Starring: TBD
Premieres: November 20, 2026
Reason for our enthusiasm: On the same day that Collins’ upcoming journey to Panem was revealed (the book is due in March 2025), Lionsgate announced its plans to adapt the eagerly awaited story about a young Haymitch Abernathy – the troubled mentor of Peeta and Katniss from the 74th Hunger Games – during his victory in the 50th Games.

What’s Getting Us Pumped: The stellar cast makes us eagerly anticipate this adaptation, as it delves into a wealthy family harboring some dark secrets beneath their polished facade. Adding to the excitement is the fact that Paul Feig, known for his skillful handling of intricate narratives like in A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel, is directing this project, so buckle up for a thrilling journey!
Based on: The 2021 book by Colleen Hoover
Starring: Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett
Premieres: TBD
What Has Us Thrilled: Firstly, let’s focus on Anne, Dakota, and Josh. This upcoming movie, based on a story about a struggling writer tasked with finishing a successful series following an author’s unexplained accident, promises to be an exhilarating, labyrinthine journey. And with this talented group in the lead roles, we can hardly wait to witness their performances on the big screen.
Based on: Rufi Thorpe’s 2024 novel
Starring: Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman
Premieres: The release date for this show is still to be determined on Apple TV+
Why we’re Excited: What makes a series truly limited if it doesn’t feature the captivating presence of Nicole Kidman? Thorpe’s book, which chronicles the life of a former Hooters waitress and pro-wrestler’s daughter who resorts to OnlyFans after becoming a single mom at 20, is already engrossing. However, with the addition of Kidman to the cast, this eight-episode series has catapulted itself to the top of our must-watch list.
