Emmerdale airs Tom King’s sick new plan ahead of trial in ITVX release

As someone who has lived through the harrowing ordeal of domestic abuse, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions when I see Tom King’s antics on Emmerdale. The manipulation, the control, and the constant fear – it all comes rushing back. Yet, there is also a sense of hope that justice will prevail and survivors like Belle Dingle will find the strength to stand up against their abusers.

Warning: The events of tomorrow’s Emmerdale episode on the 16th of December, 2024, which can be streamed on ITVX, may reveal key plot points.

This article contains discussion of domestic abuse, including coercive control, that some readers may find upsetting.

Tom King, alias James Chase, started a fresh tricky scheme before facing trial in Emmerdale, as he secretly planned ways to elude punishment for his wrongdoings.

In a new development, the antagonist faces accusations for abusive, dominating behavior towards his former spouse, Belle Dingle, as well as for physically attacking her. [Character] has been indicted for these offenses. (Eden Taylor-Draper portrays Belle Dingle.)

As the trial approached, the prison found itself in a state of chaos when Tom was suddenly hospitalized, due to an attempt to end his own life. This troubling news quickly spread to both Belle and his uncle, Jimmy King (Nick Miles).

Belle was taken aback when she, Jimmy, disclosed to their family that Tom had previously attempted suicide. Just recently, it dawned on Belle that Tom might’ve intentionally faked his past drug overdose to prevent her from leaving him.

Currently, Belle was finding it hard to tell fact from fiction. However, Jimmy reassured her that regardless of the truth, Tom’s behavior had nothing to do with her.

Emma Atkins’ character, Charity, and James Hooton’s character, Sam Dingle, advised Belle to avoid letting manipulative Tom affect her thoughts again. However, more than anyone else, Belle herself understood the challenge of dealing with mental health issues due to past experiences.

At the hospital, Tom pretended to be vulnerable and dismissed his doctor, yet inside, he was secretly delighted that news of his predicament had circulated.

Lawyer Ollie (Alistair Toovey) proposed that Tom’s actions were intended to postpone the trial, a notion which Tom believed would cause Belle to reconsider providing her testimony in court.

Will Belle back out of seeking justice, or will Tom’s scheme fail?
