As a dedicated Emmerdale fan with over two decades of viewing under my belt, I must say that Thursday’s episode was a rollercoaster ride of emotions! The news about Rebecca White’s passing and its impact on Robert Sugden’s life has been long anticipated, and it was finally addressed in this week’s installment.

There was a welcome update on a beloved former Emmerdale character in the latest streaming episode, in the aftermath of some unexpected news.

Discussion shifted towards Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), the father of Ross Barton’s (Michael Parr) late ex’s child, Seb, when Ross announced that his former partner, Rebecca White (Emily Head), had passed away.

In a surprising turn of events, it was revealed to Robert’s former spouse, Aaron Dingle (portrayed by Danny Miller), that there is someone new in Robert’s life named Rebecca. Quickly, he shared this news with Robert’s sibling, Victoria (played by Isabel Hodgins).

Since Sebastian resides in Bristol with one of Rebecca’s relatives, Victoria was eager to locate him. This prompted her, along with Aaron and Mackenzie Boyd (also known as Lawrence Robb), to inquire about Robert’s involvement from Ross.

Ross pointed out that Vic hasn’t contacted Robert or Sebastian in a long time, and went on to share that he and the social services recently visited Robert in prison, as he’s currently serving a sentence for murder.

Robert gave his nod to the plan for Rebecca’s aunt to look after Seb. However, when Ross shared that Robert stated this wasn’t Victoria’s concern, Aaron felt compelled to remark: “That’s not typical of Robert.

In a playful but tense exchange, Ross jibed at Aaron, pointing out that his name had not been mentioned, which escalated the situation.

Later, Vic said that if they had known, maybe she and Aaron could have helped look after Seb.

Lucy Pargeter’s character, Chas Dingle, consoled Aaron as he confessed that Seb wasn’t involved in his situation. Despite this, it was evident that Aaron couldn’t shake off his concerns.

Chas made it clear to his son that Robert wouldn’t have consented to Seb visiting Bristol unless he believed it was the correct choice.

However, as Robert’s thoughts resurface within Aaron, it’s no wonder that he finds it challenging when his latest partner – and Robert’s half-brother John (played by Oliver Farnworth) – questions him about his past relationship the following week.

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 7:30pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
