Emmerdale confirms return of iconic Barton after 6 years

As a cinephile with over two decades of soap-watching under my belt, I must say that the return of Ross Barton to Emmerdale is like a long-lost friend coming home. The villagers are surely in for a rollercoaster ride, especially considering his history and penchant for stirring up trouble.

A storm is brewing in Emmerdale, as the well-known character Ross Barton, portrayed by Michael Parr, is due back in the village.

Back in 2013, Ross quickly became a beloved character among fans as they welcomed him onto the soap. It was quite sad for them when he departed in 2018, which was six years ago now.

But the ITV soap has since confirmed that the bad boy is on his way back.

It’s not clear what’s bringing him back, but Emmerdale hinted that he has unresolved past hurts, and he may irritate certain townsfolk – reminiscent of Ross.

About his comeback, Parr expressed, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be back on Emmerdale! Ross is a role I hold dear, and I can’t wait to delve into where he’s been for the last five years.

Once I’ve read through the scripts, I’m absolutely eager for the public to witness it! Let me tell you, when Ross comes back, there will undeniably be some spectacular moments.

Laura Shaw, a producer from Emmerdale, expressed her joy by saying, “We’re thrilled to welcome Michael back to our Emmerdale family, where he will portray the captivating and mischievous character of Ross Barton yet again.

From the instant Ross reappears, he leaves a significant mark, causing chaos in the lives of several villagers right off the bat.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but feel a thrill at the thought of Ross returning to our peaceful village. His unpredictable nature, marked by chaos, wildness, and a dash of recklessness, promises an exhilarating ride. The tranquility we’ve known will be turned on its head, proving beyond doubt that when a Barton boy is back in town, it’s anything but quiet!

Previously on the show, Ross was particularly recognized for his stormy love affairs with Donna Windsor (portrayed by Verity Rushworth) and Debbie Dingle (played by Charley Webb).

In addition, he played a significant role in a compelling narrative that dealt with him accepting and adapting to life-altering wounds inflicted by an acid attack.

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 7:30pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
