Emmerdale star ‘taking break from soap’ after 18 years

Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling) looks set to take a break from Emmerdale in the coming weeks.

Star Dowling has portrayed the character Cathy for eighteen years, featuring prominently in significant plotlines. One notable aspect involves her character’s history of bullying her niece, April Windsor, played by Amelia Flanagan.

Reflecting on my past mistakes, I reached out to April to make things right. However, I soon found myself grappling with intense menstrual discomfort and erratic mood swings.

Cathy endured a prolonged period before receiving an official label for her predicament, yet it was ultimately identified as PMDD, or Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.

Subsequently, Cathy was struck with the heartrending demise of her twin brother Heath, portrayed by Sebastian Dowling.

After that, Cathy had to deal with the sad passing of her twin brother Heath, who was acted by Sebastian Dowling in the story.

Health met an unfortunate accident as the inexperienced driver, Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes), took control of Wendy Posner’s (Susan Cookson) vehicle.

Cathy joined sorrowful father Bob (Tony Audenshaw) in remembering their cherished Heath, and since then, they have both honored him at his newly placed grave marker. Peace has since settled over their family.

So, happily, it looks like Cathy will be back in the village before we know it.

Yet, she must bid farewell to her adoptive mother Brenda Walker (played by Lesley Dunlop), as she plans to leave the Yorkshire Dales this coming year.

What can we expect as Brenda prepares to leave us? Here’s hoping that the strong connection she shares with Cathy, whom she has nurtured and regarded as her own, will remain steadfast.

Information and assistance regarding Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) are accessible through the Mind’s website.
