As the temperature rises, so does the level of drama in Emmerdale.
The ITV soap is preparing for an exciting summer full of unexpected events, changes in direction, character comebacks, and much more, promising a thrilling autumn in the Yorkshire village.
In the coming weeks and months, we can expect to be captivated by Aaron’s (Danny Miller) and John’s (Oliver Farnworth) wedding-related drama, as well as a intriguing tale unfolding for our favorite character, Bear (Joshua Richards).
Read on for your summer preview for Emmerdale…
1. Bear’s big storyline

In a shocking turn of events, Marlon Dingle [MARK CHARNOCK], visibly distraught, finds a disturbing letter. The scene quickly turns chaotic as everyone rushes to locate Paddy. The focus will shift towards Bear during summer and fall, as a compelling narrative unfolds that could significantly alter his character. While Emmerdale hasn’t revealed the specific details about Bear’s upcoming events, they hint at something quite unusual happening to this cherished villager.
Shaw subtly suggested: “There’s a major plot twist coming for our character, and for a short time, he’ll temporarily disappear from the screen. When he returns, viewers will notice a drastically changed Bear in an entirely new scenario. We can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction, wondering, ‘What on earth transpired here?’
Consider us intrigued!
2. Sarah’s baby twist

For the past two weeks, we’ve observed Sarah (Katie Hill), who battles with the progressive illness Fanconi anemia, express her wish to start a family. In response, the plot is set to revolve around her experiences for the next year or so.
As I attempted to express myself, I made it clear that the journey ahead would be filled with unexpected twists and turns, leading to significant rifts within our family unit.
Will Sarah get the baby she so desperately wants?
3. Dylan returns – what does he want?

Audience grew instantly attached to Dylan (Fred Kettle) when he debuted in April’s (Amelia Flanagan) heart-wrenching story arc, where she fled her home. He was only a temporary resident and it’s good news that he’ll be reappearing in Emmerdale soon.
I might just as well carry my history along when I visit the village, and that could potentially stir up a storm for April and the entire family there, Shaw hinted playfully.
With April getting back on track after her ordeal, will this arrival set her back?
4. Lewis Barton causes chaos

It was previously announced that Bradley Riches would portray Lewis Barton, the sibling of Ross Barton (played by Michael Parr). Details regarding his character’s role are still scarce at this time.
Though the specific motives behind Lewis’s creation have yet to be revealed, Shaw stated that “this character was undoubtedly conceived specifically for Bradley,” implying that Lewis will introduce a sense of disorder into the village.
5. Aaron and Mack’s life-changing drama

A captivating plotline set during autumn unfolds around the characters Aaron and Mackenzie (played by Lawrence Robb). Details about the predicaments they’ll find themselves in – as is customary for them – remain scarce, but Shaw hints that this time it will be a turning point in their lives. Additionally, remember that we’re yet to discover what happened when Mack was running through the woods during the New Year flash-forward.
“Don’t worry, we have not forgotten about it… it might happen here, we shall see!” Shaw said.
She mentioned with interest: “Currently, we are constructing a fresh stage for next week’s performance. Just now, I finished reading the initial script draft, and I must admit, it contains some of the most thrilling and captivating episodes I’ve encountered in quite a while.
We can’t wait!
6. Aaron and John’s wedding drama

It seems that Aaron is getting married to John soon, but given John’s increasingly villainous behavior, it’s hard to imagine him escaping the consequences, isn’t it? And as with any captivating soap opera, a wedding could certainly present an excellent chance for his secrets to be exposed… wouldn’t you agree?
John finds himself anxious as he approaches his wedding, fearing that his hidden past could be uncovered,” Shaw elaborated. “Over the course of a week, we’ll witness the unfolding events – each day representing a single day, with Monday to Friday making up one day. There are some creative touches involving John’s dreams, and we explore possible scenarios that may materialize…
7. Aidan comes out of his coma
One of John’s biggest secrets is currently in a coma in hospital: Aidan.
As a film enthusiast, I can confidently say that Shaw assured me he won’t be in a coma for eternity. The intrigue lies in whether he’ll regain consciousness and what secrets he might reveal upon awakening. Will his sudden reappearance disrupt an upcoming wedding? Only time will tell… However, John faces more challenges than just the coma, it seems…
8. Nate’s grizzly discovery

Nate’s remains are currently at the base of the lake, serving as a home for fish, but this situation won’t last indefinitely. The lake is scheduled to undergo dredging, which coincides with the upcoming wedding of John and Aaron.
Shaw mused over the situation: “Given that Nate and Aidan are causing trouble and potentially ruining John’s wedding day while endangering his relationship with Aaron, just how far might John go to prevent such chaos?
9. Joe Tate’s enemy list grows to deadly levels

In a less dramatic but equally clear way: Joe Tate (played by Ned Porteous) has been exceptionally malicious, engaging in actions such as drugging and abducting his own brother, stealing another man’s kidney for personal gain, and more. Is there any other soap opera villain who has gone to such extremes? However, in the world of soap operas, such actions don’t go unpunished for long. It seems that Joe is in for a lot of retribution, leading up to a dramatic confrontation at Lydia’s (Karen Blick) 50th birthday party at Home Farm, which promises to be quite explosive.
Shaw playfully hinted: “As soon as he stepped into the show, he had several adversaries right off the bat – however, as events unfold, we’ll witness him accumulating even more foes. By Lydia’s birthday party, that number of enemies has swelled substantially… There are numerous people with ill intentions towards Joe Tate, and many are plotting his demise. I can assure you, one person will certainly seek vengeance on Joe Tate.
But who? And will they succeed in their murderous act?
