As a long-time follower of British soaps and a self-proclaimed Emmerdale enthusiast, I must say it’s always bittersweet to see a beloved character bid farewell. Roxy Shahidi, who has graced our screens as Leyla Harding for 16 years, is leaving the show, and while I’m sad to see her go, I can’t help but admire her courage and ambition.
Roxy Shahidi is reportedly leaving her role as Leyla Harding on Emmerdale after 16 years.
According to a source who spoke to The Sun, Roxy cherished every moment spent on the soap opera, and has accumulated countless joyful experiences ever since she started working there at age 17.
She’s developed strong bonds with the cast members, who feel more like family to her, and has significantly improved her acting skills. However, she now senses it’s the right moment to venture out and explore fresh opportunities.
She’s genuinely thrilled about the dramatic turn her character Leyla’s storyline will take, culminating in Leyla’s death on screen. She prefers to make a big impact and be memorably written off.
Previously, Shahidi participated in Dancing on Ice, and more recently, she featured in the reality show Drama Queens. Unfortunately, this series was canceled following its first season.
Initially, Shahidi became a part of Emmerdale in the year 2008, but left by 2011. Later on, she made brief appearances in two episodes during 2013. However, her character returned to the series permanently starting from January 2014.
Shahidi has played significant roles in various plotlines on the ITV soap opera. Not too long ago, her character found herself under the watchful eye of a stalker and was even abducted.
In addition to her role on Emmerdale, Shahidi is also a qualified yoga teacher who established the Yoga Lunch Club and regularly posts yoga video content on her YouTube channel.
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 7:30pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
