Dawn Robinson is clarifying her recent comments.
As a die-hard En Vogue devotee, I’ve been following the news closely, and it’s been weighing heavily on my heart to hear about one of their alums residing in her car since last March. However, I feel it’s important to emphasize that she herself has chosen this unconventional living arrangement.
In her statement to People, Dawn clarified that she is not without a home. Instead, she has opted for living in a car as a temporary measure during her healing and self-discovery process.
She went on to say, “I leapt boldly into this way of life, and let me tell you, it’s been an exhilarating, thrilling, occasionally nerve-wracking journey.” She added, “For myself, giving up or failing is out of the question. Enduring vulnerability can be tough, but it’s through these experiences that I thrive. This journey is about seizing freedom, having faith in the journey, and discovering resilience in the unanticipated.
The artist famous for “Don’t Let Go” (a song he created) had a complex relationship with En Vogue: he left the group in 1997, then rejoined in 2002 but eventually departed again in 2008. He further added that life sometimes takes us to unexpected situations, and it’s during those uncertain periods that personal growth and self-discovery can be particularly enriching.
Dawn remarked, “There’s a skill or knowledge we should acquire or impart, yet we’re held back by our fears, reluctant to venture beyond our comfort zones. Fortunately, the universe seems to have a way of nudging us. During this phase of growth, we either build trust in ourselves or yield to fear and experience failure.
Instead of fundraising for herself, the 58-year-old cautioned her followers and fans about potentially fraudulent online campaigns that might be soliciting money in her name.
Let me set the record straight: I haven’t given the green light for any fundraising initiatives, and it breaks my heart to think that my devoted fans might fall prey to fraudulent activities or exploitation.
She went on saying, “Your affection and assistance truly make a significant impact on me, and I strive to ensure that your generosity isn’t exploited in any way.” She then added, “So, please exercise caution and refrain from sending money to individuals who claim they are acting on my behalf.
Ever since I bravely revealed my three-year stint in my car and the string of unsuccessful living arrangements prior, spanning two tumultuous years, I’ve been passionately reflecting on my extraordinary journey as a nomadic soul.
In her March 11 YouTube video, she expressed that it feels like a thrilling journey, one she’s deeply immersed in at the moment. She wouldn’t give up the lessons and challenges she’s faced for anything.
In my perspective, I strive to motivate and share the message that there’s nothing you can’t achieve, regardless of the challenges or obstacles that may stand in your way.
Keep reading to look back at more iconic girl groups and boy bands…
20 years ago, I was just a kid when the Backstreet Boys dropped their debut album in 1996. But with their 1999 masterpiece “Millennium,” they truly ruled the millennium’s start! Now, here I am, still cheering for Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, and Kevin Richardson as they continue to rock stages worldwide, performing our beloved tunes that have stood the test of time.
Cheers to the girl group that produced the phenomenal Beyoncé! There’s no need to be “Bug a Boo” about Destiny’s Child, because Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams continue to shine brightly as individual icons even today.
The well-known boy band, ‘NSYNC, consisted of Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, JC Chasez, and Chris Kirkpatrick. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for another grand performance from them. For now, we aren’t quite ready to bid them farewell with “Bye Bye Bye.
To become their loved one, it’s essential to win over their friends, and trust me, they have plenty! The Spice Girls dominated the U.K. in the ’90s with their stylish outfits and memorable tunes. Among them were the fabulous Mel C, Victoria Beckham, the spirited Mel B, the graceful Geri Halliwell, and the charming Emma Bunton. These five ladies were every girl’s dream from Great Britain.
In the ’90s, Hanson, like other popular boy bands of the era, achieved fame with their hit song “MMMBop.” After releasing an album together in 2013, brothers Isaac Hanson, Taylor Hanson, and Zac Hanson pursued separate solo careers. However, they came back together again in 2018 for the album “String Theory” and are still touring up until 2022. And yes, Taylor Hanson is also a father to seven children!
Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas continue to form the ’90s rap group TLC, even after the untimely death of original member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002. Lil Mama performed alongside TLC in 2013, prior to the announcement of their new album in 2017.
Since 2017, the South Korean boy band BTS has primarily been responsible for penning, creating, and performing many of their hits as globally recognized stars. The dedicated fanbase of this K-pop group, affectionately known as the “Army,” is renowned for its unwavering enthusiasm, which ranks among the most fervent in music history.
Absolutely, Nick Lachey was part of a boy band that had us all feeling hotter than 98 Degrees. Alongside his brother Drew Lachey and Justin Jeffre, they were the music producers who, after leaving college, decided to focus on their musical careers in the ’90s. Together with Jeff Timmons, they formed the group.
In the late ’80s, New Kids on the Block experienced a meteoric rise to stardom, and they re-formed together in 2011 for a nostalgic concert tour alongside The Backstreet Boys.
The original New Kids on the Block members consisted of brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood. After disbanding in 1994, they later regrouped and hit the road with the Backstreet Boys in 2011, an event that sent shockwaves through the Internet. Today, they continue to perform together.
Oh, how thrilling it is to have the Jonas Brothers back! The brothers Jonas, namely Nick, Joe, and Kevin, bring us Nick’s captivating smile, Joe’s charming swagger, and Kevin’s commanding big brother presence. Not only that, but they also serenade us with their beautiful voices and instrumental skills. We can’t help but be smitten by these talented celebrities since their band first emerged in 2006.
One of the most outstanding bands to emerge from a singing competition show, One Direction, dominated globally during the 2010s. This popular boy band has spawned numerous successful solo careers. Notable examples include Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Harry Styles, who have all left indelible marks on the music (and fashion and film) industry.
The group originated from “The X Factor” show and they are queens of pop music, addressing topics such as body positivity, feminism, the challenges of social media, and balancing these responsibilities while being young mothers in their songs.
The band members Lisa, Rosé, Jennie, and Jisoo collectively form the K-pop group BLACKPINK. They released their debut album, appropriately named “THE ALBUM,” in October 2020. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Rosé explained that they chose the name Blackpink because it reflects two colors that embody them best: their femininity and their fierce side. The song ‘Pretty Savage’ represents this duality, hence the name black pink, which they believe describes them perfectly.
Prior to the global shift towards working from home (WFH) as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Fifth Harmony provided fans with an energetic and seductive tune to help alleviate any WFH-related issues. Following the girl group’s hiatus in 2018, breakout singer Camila Cabello has enjoyed a thriving solo career, including a role as Cinderella, while other members have also launched their own individual projects.
5 Seconds of Summer, a rock band hailing from Australia, initially gained recognition through their YouTube videos. Their singles, “She Looks So Perfect” and “Girls Talk Boys”, garnered radio attention, which propelled them forward. Afterward, they toured as the opening act for One Direction, marking the beginning of their successful career, and since then, history has been made.
For more than three decades, the trio consisting of Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Wanya Morris from Boyz II Men have continued to captivate music charts with timeless hits such as “I’ll Make Love to You” and “One Sweet Day.
In a contrast to the band One Direction, the British group The Wanted gained popularity in the U.S. with their hit single “Glad You Came” in 2012. They also had their own reality show titled “The Wanted Life”. After taking a break in 2014, they hinted at returning soon.
2016 saw the creation of the band CNCO, comprised of members Joel Pimentel, Richard Camacho, Erick Brian Colón, Christopher Vélez, and Zabdiel De Jesús. However, on May 14, they performed together for the last time as a quintet, following Joel Pimentel’s decision to depart from the group.
As a devoted fan, I’ve followed Big Time Rush’s journey from Nickelodeon to live performances across the country for an incredible five-year run before they called it quits in 2014. It’s fantastic news that the original quartet – Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, Carlos PenaVega, and James Maslow – are reuniting for two brand new shows slated for December 2021.
In the year 2002, the British pop band known as Girls Aloud made history by being one of the first groups to emerge from a reality TV competition series, specifically “Popstars: The Rivals.” This remarkable band consisted of vocalists Sarah Harding, Cheryl (formerly Cheryl Cole), Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh. Over the course of their career, they achieved 20 top 10 singles and four number ones, with “Sound of the Underground” being one of their hits during their successful run.
