Starting November 1st, I’m sad to say that a game I enjoyed will no longer be part of my collection on Epic Games Store. This game was taken down from sale earlier this year but I, along with other owners, could still keep and play it. However, come November 1st, the game will be completely removed from everyone’s library, meaning I won’t be able to access it anymore.
The disputed video game is titled Dark and Darker, which was taken down from the Epic Game Store this year due to legal problems involving Ironmace, its developer, and Nexon. They claim that Ironmace has wrongfully taken something from them. The case is intricate and messy, but it’s crucial to understand that the complications led Epic Games to remove the game from their platform entirely, and it remains absent, even though it can still be found on Steam.
Starting today, users who have ‘Dark’ or ‘Darker’ games in their Epic Games Store inventory are receiving emails. These messages inform them that these specific games will soon be taken out of their library and that refunds will be issued for this removal.
“Due to a court ruling in Korea between Nexon and Ironmace regarding Dark and Darker, we took it off sale on the Epic Games Store on March 5. On November 1, 2025, this game will be removed from your library, making it unplayable through the Epic Games Store.
Currently, you can’t buy Redstone Shards or Legendary Status upgrades on our store. However, any Redstone Shards you already own can be used until November 1, 2025. If you’ve purchased the Legendary Status upgrade, we will refund your money by July 1, 2022. The refund will go back to your original payment method, or if that’s not possible, it will be added to your Epic account balance. Unfortunately, we can’t give refunds on Redstone Shards. If you haven’t received a refund by July 1, please contact our player support.”
The outcome here seems to hinge on how the ongoing legal disagreement concludes. For now, Steam hasn’t followed suit, but it’s possible that their actions might alter in the future.
Regarding Dark and Darker, if you haven’t encountered it before, it’s an interactive role-playing game (RPG) that blends action with dungeon exploration, all set in a gloomy fantasy universe. It made its debut in 2023, initially available through early access. On launch, it was distributed not only on PC platforms but also on mobile devices. Upon release, it garnered mixed reviews from critics.
