Epic Jujutsu Kaisen Poster Proves We Need a Heian Era Anime ASAP

As a die-hard fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I can’t help but be captivated by the tantalizing prospect of a Heian Era prequel. The art posted by cpasDryNa on Twitter is nothing short of breathtaking, transporting us back to ancient Japan and painting Sukuna as the fearsome force he was during his prime.

One key takeaway from “Jujutsu Kaisen” is that Sukuna should never be underestimated. After all, he’s earned the title of the Curse King, and rightfully so. This menacing figure has been casting a long shadow over the “Jujutsu Kaisen” world since its inception, with his influence extending far beyond Shibuya.

As you can see below, the art in question comes from X (Twitter) user cpasDryNa as they imagined Sukuna at his peak. The art takes us back in time to Japan’s Heian era, and Sukuna is in top form so far as jujutsu society is concerned. With Uruame in the background, the poster gives Sukuna an unmistakable aura. There is no mistaking this man for anything other than a predator. And after seeing what Sukuna did in Shibuya, well – can you blame us for wanting a prequel of him in his age?

What Is the Heian Era?

In summary, while characters like Gojo and Yuta have touched upon the Heian era in Jujutsu Kaisen, it’s been inconsistent in its exploration. Despite this, the series portrays the Heian era as a golden age for jujutsu. During this time, vengeful spirits such as Sugawara no Michizane and other yokai like Shuten Douji emerged, with Sukuna being born right in the midst of it all. As the Heian era was the pinnacle of jujutsu practitioners, Sukuna grew incredibly powerful within this society. However, his power became unmanageable for the jujutsu community, leading to a massacre where he killed all the sorcerers who opposed him, eventually becoming known as Sukuna, the King of Curses.

Absolutely, it’s common knowledge that Sukuna eventually perished, leaving behind his fingers as Cursed Artifacts. These artifacts sustained his spirit, but there are battles from Sukuna’s past during the Heian era about which we have no written record. These battles were so monumental that even when Jogo exhibited impressive fighting skills in Shibuya, Sukuna deemed it “not bad,” giving us a hint of the epic fights of yesteryear. Furthermore, the sorcerers from this era are believed to be the founding fathers of the well-known jujutsu clans like the Gojo lineage. With Jujutsu Kaisen setting such a vast historical period for exploration, Sukuna’s final battle in the manga offers us a glimpse into what he might have been capable of during that time.

Will Jujutsu Kaisen Continue Beyond Its Main Series?

Currently, Jujutsu Kaisen is focusing heavily on its primary series, meaning any spin-offs aren’t being considered at this time. However, it should be noted that this is public knowledge. Jujutsu Kaisen has announced that it will release its final chapter on September 30, and creator Gege Akutami is working diligently to reach this conclusion. After dedicating himself to Jujutsu Kaisen since March 2018, the manga’s ending is almost upon us, just three chapters away.

It’s uncertain if the story of Jujutsu Kaisen will carry on at some point due to its richly developed universe and the fact that the current series has left many plot threads unresolved. Although some key questions have been addressed, the Heian era appears to be out of scope for the main storyline. To explore Sukuna’s backstory, it seems likely that a spin-off may be required. The enthusiasm among fans for a Jujutsu Kaisen prequel has grown significantly, as evidenced by a widely circulated fan-poster.
