Eric Clapton’s MTV Unplugged special to get 30th anniversary theatrical release in the UK

On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, Eric Clapton’s MTV Unplugged performance is set to screen in movie theaters across the US and UK for a limited run of two days. Additionally, it will be made available for streaming on Paramount Plus.

The 90-minute special featuring a renowned musician discussing his song inspirations prior to performing will be available for viewing on the large screens in both the United States and the United Kingdom on January 27th (US) and 28th (UK).

1992 found Eric Clapton reinterpreting his collection of songs at Bray Studios in Windsor, England. For the very first time, he crafted new arrangements for popular hits like “Layla” and “Tears in Heaven.”

(The word “catalogue” was replaced with “collection of songs”, and the sentence structure was rearranged to improve readability.)

Additionally, the musician showcased his respect for the blues tunes that shaped him, by performing renditions of classics like “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out” by Bessie Smith and “Before You Accuse Me” by Bo Diddley.

Eight months after Eric Clapton’s MTV Unplugged show, a live studio album was released, selling more than 26 million copies across the globe and earning the title as the best-selling live album ever made.

Additionally, it was honored with six Grammy Awards, among which were Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.

Eric Clapton has been honored three times in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; once for his solo career, another time for his work with the band the Yardbirds, and yet again for his tenure in the group Cream.
