Eric Dane’s Daughter Rescued Him While Swimming Amid ALS Battle

Eric Dane is getting vulnerable about the reality of his ALS diagnosis.

Two months following the revelation by the star of “Grey’s Anatomy” and father to girls Billie (15) and Georgia (13), together with wife Rebecca Gayheart, that he had been diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease, he reminisced about a deeply emotional incident he encountered with one of his teenage daughters during a snorkeling trip.

In a June 16 interview on Good Morning America, Dane confessed to Diane Sawyer that he had jumped into the ocean one day without knowing how to swim. When he discovered he couldn’t reach the boat, he exclaimed internally, “Oh god,” and realized his safety in the water was compromised. He shared that one of his daughters helped him return to the boat. Overwhelmed with emotion, he ensured his daughter got back into the water with a friend to continue snorkeling while he remained heartbroken.

Certainly, the lead actor from Euphoria openly acknowledged that since his confirmation of having ALS, or what’s commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease – a condition that affects nerves linked to voluntary muscle function – he often reflects on this challenge in his daily life.

“I will never forget those three letters,” he said. “It’s on me the second I wake up.”

In my current situation, I, Dane, am grappling with a challenging health issue that has impaired the functionality of my dominant right hand and is starting to affect my left as well. However, amidst the hardships of this disease, I am deeply grateful for my partner Rebecca, who showed compassion by withdrawing the divorce petition in March. Her unwavering support continues to be a source of strength and inspiration for me.

In the course of our daily interactions, I find myself seeking solace in our deepening friendship. Through this journey, we’ve not only grown closer as individuals but also as parents. She stands as a formidable advocate for me, and I find immense support in leaning on her whenever I need to.

Regardless of his incurable illness, the actor from The Last Ship is determinedly carrying on with the life he desires for as long as it’s feasible.

He continued, “I strongly believe my journey isn’t over yet. Deep down, I feel this isn’t the end for me. I’m doing everything in my power to keep going. There are many factors beyond my control.

Still, he has simple goals for the rest of his life.

“All I want to do is spend time with my family,” he noted. “And work a little if I can.”

In April 2025, a former cast member of “Beverly Hills, 90210” shared that he was recuperating following an operation, as his appendix had almost ruptured.

A week ago, Brian mentioned in an Instagram video that he began experiencing abdominal discomfort. This led him to visit the emergency room where they discovered his appendix was perforated, not entirely ruptured, but very close to it.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

Adam Devine revealed that the injuries he suffered at age 11, following an accident with a cement truck, continue to impact him up until now.

In the 2025 edition of the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast, Devine expressed that it has been an extremely difficult time for him. He explained that he has been experiencing constant spasms throughout his body, and not too long ago, doctors told him that he was close to death – literally, within the last year.

He observed that pain fluctuates, stating, “There are certain quirks and imperfections in my body that aren’t quite right.

As a devoted follower, I’d like to share that one of the Bachelor Nation veterans recently disclosed his visit to the hospital after enduring unbearable back pain. This distressing condition worsened during a recreational vehicle (RV) journey with a close companion, causing him to move on all fours due to the intensity of the pain.

In the March 2025 episode of his “Trading Secrets” podcast, he remarked, “Even as I speak, from knees to toes, it’s quite numb, which is astonishing.” To give you an idea, around two or three weeks ago, perhaps a month ago, I was squatting approximately 295 pounds. Now, I’m unable to perform a simple squat on one leg. If I attempt a one-legged squat, I lose balance. It feels like I’ve had a stroke or something similar.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

In a game played in December 2024, an AHL player got 25 stitches after being accidentally sliced by another player’s skate. After his recovery, his father, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald, expressed gratitude to ESPN, stating, “We’re incredibly fortunate. I wouldn’t wish such an incident on any other parent.

Back in March 2025, Gina Kirschenheiter from the show Real Housewives of Orange County disclosed that her ex-husband Matt Kirschenheiter had a heart attack. However, luckily for them both, he made it through this harrowing experience.

In March 2025, the main actor from “30 Rock” experienced a health emergency during a New York Knicks basketball match, which required him to be carried out of Madison Square Garden.

On the next day, the comedian posted an update on social media, explaining it was due to food poisoning and he was recovering well.

In the month of February, 2025, I myself took to social media to reveal an unsettling incident. During a getaway to mark my beloved husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday, I was unfortunate enough to sustain a gunshot wound to my face while we were enjoying a clay pigeon shooting excursion.

She posted on Instagram that there was another group present who accidentally discharged their firearm incorrectly and it struck her in the face. Instantly, @thebrendanrooney intervened, evaluated my condition, and swiftly transported me to the hospital. I was wounded in five locations; one injury was just a hair’s breadth away from directly hitting my right eye.

The former star of “Kim Possible” added, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck at the back of my eye and it’s not safe to take out through surgery right now. Medical professionals are keeping a close watch on me (for now, I can see clearly).

She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for being alive, saying, “My affection for my daughters, husband, family, and friends is immense.” She recounted a moment when she felt her life was about to pass before her eyes, emphasizing the importance of cherishing those close to us. “Seize any opportunity you have to embrace the people around you,” she advised, “because life can unexpectedly change in an instant.

Despite the occasional harshness on the internet, Amy Schumer is grateful it provided her with valuable insights during a difficult time. In an episode of Call Her Daddy from January 2025, she reminisced about her face appearing “puffier” in the media and people commenting, causing her to reassure everyone, “Everybody, relax.” However, medical professionals chimed in with concerns about Cushing syndrome, which they believed could be caused by spiking cortisol levels or steroid injections.

Intriguingly, Amy had been receiving steroid injections for her scars from a breast reduction and C-section. Upon realizing this, she deduced that these injections might have led to Cushing syndrome, a condition she wouldn’t have known about without the internet’s scrutiny.

Now, Amy is relieved to be healthy after learning that the type of Cushing syndrome she has will resolve itself naturally. She expressed her gratitude for this revelation in a February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter.

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a terrifying ordeal during breakfast with her husband Justin Bieber when she started showing symptoms similar to a stroke. She recalled the incident on YouTube a month later, explaining that she couldn’t respond or speak properly, and her right side of the face drooped. Despite these alarming signs, her speech eventually returned, but Hailey immediately sought medical attention to ensure she was okay.

Upon examination, doctors discovered a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further investigation at the University of California, Los Angeles revealed that Hailey had a heart condition known as patent foramen ovale (PFO), a hole in her heart. The blood clot had reportedly traveled into her heart through this hole, escaped from it, and reached her brain, causing the TIA.

Hailey underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and is now feeling well.

In the same year Hailey went through a health crisis, Justin also faced a similar challenge. Specifically, in June 2022, the “Baby” singer announced that he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that resulted in temporary facial paralysis and led him to postpone the rest of his Justice World Tour. In an Instagram video, Justin explained that the virus had affected the nerve in his ear and facial nerves, causing one side of his face to become paralyzed. He noted that he could not blink one eye, smile on one side of his face, or move one nostril. Eating became increasingly difficult for him, but over time, the paralysis subsided. Hailey shared on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America that Justin was doing well and had recovered significantly since then. She expressed relief that he was okay and thankful for his recovery.

Jamie Foxx first chose to keep secret his hospitalization in April 2023, but later shared his experiences. In Atlanta, he recalled saying to a friend, “I need an aspirin,” but before getting one, he collapsed and lost consciousness for approximately 20 days.

Initially examined by a doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent him home, his concerned sister Deidra Dixon then took him to a hospital. There, they discovered he had a brain hemorrhage that caused a stroke.

Twenty days after surgery on May 4, Jamie awoke in a wheelchair, unable to walk. He was subsequently transferred to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.

“I just want to express my gratitude for every prayer,” he said, “as I truly needed each one.

Actress Emilia Clarke experienced a life-threatening health issue while filming for ‘Game of Thrones’. In 2019, she penned an essay in The New Yorker titled “A Battle for My Life”. Describing her ordeal, she recalled an intense headache at the gym that led to vomiting and worsening pain. She was rushed to the hospital where a brain scan revealed a life-threatening stroke caused by aneurysm bleeding.

The Emmy nominee underwent immediate surgery to repair the aneurysm, describing the pain as excruciating. During her recovery, she also experienced aphasia and spoke incoherently. However, a week later, the aphasia disappeared, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month.

In 2013, another brain scan showed that the growth had doubled in size, necessitating another surgery. She shared that the second operation involved opening her skull to access her brain. Fortunately, she’s now fully recovered and is in good health.

In January 2024, Snoop Dogg’s daughter Cori Broadus experienced a severe stroke. Her family rallied around her immediately, coming to her aid when she informed them about it through texts and pictures. Due to additional health issues related to lupus, Cori’s hospital stay extended beyond what she initially anticipated. She mentioned that her kidneys were failing at the time, and there were multiple complications. Today, Cori is recovering well, focusing on regaining some motor skills and overall feeling fine.

In her twenties, the actress Shailene Woodley‘s health took a turn for the worse. She recounted on an episode of the SHE MD Podcast in September 2024, “My hearing started to fade, I could barely walk more than five minutes without needing to rest for hours, and anything I ate upset my stomach.” The actress didn’t disclose the specific condition but mentioned that it was a combination of various issues, diagnoses, and contradictory advice from different doctors.

In an attempt to find answers, Shailene, who has a background in holistic studies and herbalism, decided to consult with both conventional medical professionals and independent healers. This quest for understanding lasted for approximately 10 years.

During this period, the actress explained, “A lot of other issues came up as I struggled physically, such as fearing food due to stomach pain, which led to mental challenges like body dysmorphia, confusion about identity, and feelings of insecurity.”

Fortunately, after addressing both her physical and mental health concerns, Shailene is now feeling much improved. “I’m grateful to say that I am healthy now,” she shared.
