Erica Ash, Scary Movie Actress and MADtv Comedian, Dead at 46

I am deeply saddened by the news of Erica Ash’s passing at the young age of 46. As a dedicated fan of her work and someone who admired her journey from studying medicine to becoming a successful comedian and actress, it is a loss that leaves me feeling both shocked and heartbroken.

It’s a sad day in the comedy world.

46-year-old Erica Ash, well-known comedian who appeared in MADtv and Survivor’s Remorse, passed away on July 28 following a prolonged fight against cancer. This information was shared by her publicist with The Hollywood Reporter.

I’m utterly captivated by the remarkable woman that Erica was. Her extraordinary talent as an entertainer left an indelible mark on countless lives, including mine. With her quick wit, contagious humor, and authentic zest for life, she had a unique ability to brighten up even the gloomiest of days. Her memory will forever remain etched in my heart, and I’m proud to be among those whose lives she touched so deeply.

In response to TMZ, Diann Ash, Erica’s mother, stated that the actress passed away in a peaceful manner, with those who care for her most by her side.

Initially planning to pursue a medical career at Emory University, Erica eventually switched paths when she discovered her true passion lay in performance instead.

She earlier shared with the Emory Wire, an alumni association publication, that she felt deep down she’d always known her path. Her parents had dreams for her success and happiness, much like many others. To them, success was becoming a doctor or lawyer, which led her to enroll at Emory University.

I found myself capable of tackling challenging tasks with ease when I applied myself, yet I struggled to maintain focus. Deep down, I sensed that another path held the key to true happiness for me.

1. (Excitedly) My relentless pursuit eventually guided me to the vibrant heart of New York City! Here, I graced the stages of Broadway, bringing my talents to life in “The Lion King” and “Baby It’s You!” Not just that, but I also had the privilege of being part of Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron’s Off-Broadway masterpiece, “Love, Loss, and What I Wore.”

After that, she gained a firm foothold in comedy, performing in “The Big Gay Sketch Show” and “MADtv.” Later, she secured roles in “Real Husbands of Hollywood” and “Survivor’s Remorse.”

In movies, Erica had acting roles in “Scary Movie 5″ (released in 2013), “Jean of the Joneses” (2016), and “Violet” (premiered in 2021).

She also ran the advice blog The Deviled Angel.

She shared with Emory Wire that she has always leaned on her inner self in matters of relationships, friendships, family, health, personal concerns, and career challenges – big or small. What’s truly remarkable, she said, is that this spiritual connection has never failed her. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for discovering her spirit and continues to explore its immense and boundless power. Even when she believes she understands her spirit completely, she finds new dimensions of it that leave her in awe. In essence, she finds her spirit quite extraordinary!

In the wake of Erica’s passing, her longtime friend Loni Love paid tribute.

“On Instagram, July 29th, the comedian expressed that Erica was exceptionally gifted and unfailingly amusing, whether it was on Survivor’s Remorse or Madtv. She poured her heart into every role she played. Sadly, she was always a constant presence in our lives, but now she’s no longer with us.”
