Erik Menendez star Cooper Koch doesn’t want to return for more Monsters: “I’m ready to let go”

As a movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen enough to know that the world of show business is as unpredictable as a Hollywood blockbuster. The recent developments surrounding Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story have left many viewers on the edge of their seats, wondering if there will be more episodes.

Ever since Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story debuted on Netflix, many viewers have been speculating if more episodes might be produced, given that recent advancements have occurred in the actual case.

Initially, series creator Ryan Murphy showed enthusiasm for the concept, yet it appears one of the main actors is not particularly fond of the idea.

At the Academy Museum Gala held on October 19th, Variety posed a question to Cooper Koch regarding potential extra episodes for the Netflix series.

Koch said: “I think we told the story. We did it.”

He added: “I feel I’ve reached a point where I can move on. I’ve enjoyed discussing it and fighting for its cause, and I’m eager for it to be released. However, when it comes to being ‘Erik’, I believe I’m prepared to step away from that role.

As a dedicated cinephile, I can’t help but express my excitement about being part of the captivating series where I played Erik Menendez, opposite Nicholas Alexander Chavez portraying our brother Lyle. The stellar main cast included none other than Javier Bardem, Chloe Sevigny, Nathan Lane, and Ari Graynor. What a privilege it was to work alongside such talented individuals!

However, following the launch of the series, Murphy expressed his willingness to direct “a few episodes”, provided that the main cast members were also available and supportive.

In a conversation with Variety, Murphy expressed his idea: “If Nicholas [Alexander Chavez] and Cooper [Koch] are open to it, I’d love to explore possibly a few more episodes that advance the storyline.

Ever since the unveiling of the drama, I’ve been an ardent supporter of the real-life brothers and their cause. However, with him expressing his reluctance to produce additional episodes, it seems like Murphy’s aspirations for further installments might have reached a halt.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I must admit that this series hasn’t shied away from stirring up some debate. Particularly, the depiction of the brothers’ relationship, which seems to lean towards romance, has sparked quite a bit of discussion among viewers.

At a dinner gathering, Dominick Dunne shares his thoughts by suggesting, “Maybe there was something else going on entirely, unrelated to José.

At a dinner gathering, I find myself playing detective, much like Hercule Poirot, as I weave together various events, presenting them as possibilities: “This unfolded and then this occurred, and perhaps not in that exact order.” In essence, it’s simply me, the storyteller, speculating over dinner.

Lane noted, “It’s not meant to be taken too seriously; the series isn’t implying that their relationship was exactly as portrayed.

He went on: “Obviously, this has become sensationalised because everyone has been talking about this, but that’s not what the series is about.”

Although no further plans have been announced for another installment of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the next chapter in Murphy’s Monsters series has already been confirmed. This new installment will center on the story of killer Ed Gein, who will be portrayed by Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy.
