Over a span of 17 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has drawn from numerous plotlines originating in comic books. Key story arcs like the Infinity Saga and Multiverse Saga were significantly impacted, but many other threads never fully materialized. Given that these sequels were often hinted at (primarily through post-credits scenes), this development has been quite disheartening for fans.

Occasionally, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has hinted at future stories by mentioning characters, places, and plotlines in passing, or even by introducing new heroes or villains during post-credit scenes. However, some of these suggested sequels have yet to materialize on the big screen. If Marvel Studios moves quickly, there’s still a chance for these stories to come to life, but others may now be relegated to intriguing speculation among fans.

Unlike other characters who debuted after the “Endgame”, Shang-Chi had the opportunity to interact with heroes from the Infinity Saga earlier. During the mid-credits scene of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, Wong presents him to Bruce Banner (Hulk) and Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel). The trio then explore the rings, finding out that they function as a signal or beacon. However, the movie leaves more details about this discovery unexplored.

Four years have passed since “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” premiered in cinemas, and Marvel Studios has produced eight more films since then. However, a sequel for “Shang-Chi” does not appear to be planned yet. Simu Liu will reappear in “Avengers: Doomsday,” so perhaps they’ll address the beacon question there. It would have been wonderful if we could see a “Shang-Chi” sequel, but with all the new debuts happening in the MCU lately, it seems that Shang-Chi may not get another solo outing.

Previously, viewers last encountered Mitchell Carson, the rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who switched allegiance to Hydra, as he made off with a case containing Pym particles during Ant-Man’s battle against Darren Cross. This occurred in the initial Ant-Man movie released in 2015, leading fans to anticipate his return in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Regrettably, this was not the case.

For over ten years now, Ant-Man has had not one but two sequels, while there’s been no sign of Carson or resolution about the missing Pym particles. Since Carson works for Hydra, it seems likely that these particles are now in their possession, but their purpose remains unclear… and fans might be waiting a long time to see a new villain using Pym particles emerge, as Ant-Man’s storyline has veered off in another direction at this point. Furthermore, since Hydra has essentially been vanquished, bringing them back would feel messy and unsatisfying.

In the film “Thor: Love and Thunder,” Thor travels to the city of Omnipotence. However, a disagreement arises between Thor and Zeus due to Zeus’ overconfidence, forcing Thor and his companions to flee this realm and confront Gorr on their own. The post-credit scene continues the conflict between Thor and Zeus by introducing Hercules, who is assigned by Zeus to take revenge upon Thor.

It’s possible that fans might argue it’s premature to rule out the return of Hercules in the MCU, and they could be correct. However, the MCU is heading towards “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” along with a potential soft reboot. Furthermore, there’s been a lot of chatter that Chris Hemsworth might be planning to part ways with his Thor character after wrapping up the Multiverse Saga. This suggests that Thor’s story may conclude during “Secret Wars” – or even before. Given that the original Avengers are nearing their end, there might not be enough time left for a confrontation between the gods. It would be unfortunate if Brett Goldstein’s portrayal of Hercules didn’t get a chance to shine in this scenario.

Ever since Peter Parker’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), fans have been eagerly anticipating Spider-Man encountering symbiotes. The much-awaited moment seemed to be hinted at in Spider-Man: No Way Home, as evidenced by the post-credits scene. In this scene, Eddie Brock is observed being present within the MCU. Upon his departure, a fragment of symbiote remains behind.

As each day passes since the unveiling of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“, I find myself growing more and more intrigued about what’s to come. Marvel Studios hasn’t yet revealed who the villain for the fourth Spider-Man movie in the MCU will be, but if the film follows suit with its comic counterpart bearing the same title, symbiotes are seemingly off the table. The concern is that if they don’t integrate them into the MCU promptly, there may not be a chance to do so at all. The longer it takes for Venom to join the MCU, the less thrilling it becomes.

In February 2025, it’s confirmed that The Fist of Khonshu will reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, there won’t be a second season for the series. This is quite disappointing since the finale introduced Jake Lockley, a ruthless and relentless persona who has become synonymous with this hero’s darkest side.

Although Oscar Isaac wasn’t listed in the cast for “Avengers: Doomsday”, there remains a possibility that he could show up in “Avengers: Secret Wars” or another future Marvel Cinematic Universe project. Unfortunately, this means that the character of Lockley may not get a thorough exploration before joining the ranks of other MCU heroes in battle. Fans would have eagerly anticipated witnessing his interactions with Marc and Steven.

In the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Okoye and several Dora Milaje received an upgrade, donning the Midnight Angels armor suits designed by Shuri. This exciting development led Marvel Studios to consider producing a series centered around these Wakandan warriors, known as Okoye and the Midnight Angels.

Unfortunately, the series was abruptly terminated not long after its announcement, leaving no loose ends that fans would have wished for more. Despite this, it’s still disappointing because the spin-off from Black Panther had a wealth of potential. Fingers crossed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will reuse some of its storylines for Eyes of Wakanda.

Following the revelation that Doctor Strange and the Ancient One were breaking natural laws with their magic, Baron Mordo grew disillusioned with magic and harbored resentment towards sorcerers. This led him to take an oath against them and initiate a war against all practitioners of magic. The post-credit scene in Doctor Strange hints that Mordo began this crusade by targeting Jonathan Pangborn, whom he ultimately killed.

Initially, viewers anticipated that “Doctor Strange 2” would continue Stephen’s battle against Mordo. However, this didn’t happen. Instead, in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” a variant of Mordo was merely part of the Illuminati. By now, Doctor Strange has emerged as a symbol of warriors in the multiversal chaos within the MCU. Given his current responsibilities, it seems unlikely that we’ll witness how Mordo’s revenge on sorcery unfolds.

Despite high anticipation suggesting a new phase for the MCU, Eternals has unfortunately become one of the least favorite MCU films. Consequently, it’s understandable that Marvel Studios has chosen not to pursue a sequel. Regrettably, there were still many stories left untold about this race, its history, and undoubtedly, the key characters.

Apart from the team dispersing for separate assignments, a subsequent scene during the credits unveiled Starfox, played by Harry Styles, and Pip the Troll, voiced by Patton Oswalt, as fresh characters. On the other hand, another post-credit sequence hinted that Dane Whitman, portrayed by Kit Harrington, was on a path to becoming the Black Knight. These high-profile characters, who graced our screens, might not make an appearance again in the future.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the character Kang the Conqueror was introduced as a potential major villain for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Towards the end of the movie, in the post-credit scene, it showed numerous versions of this antagonist gathering, intending to dominate multiple realities. However, the storyline that was supposed to develop into the Kang Saga within the MCU disintegrated when actor Jonathan Majors, who portrayed Kang, was removed from future projects following severe accusations of domestic violence.

Marvel Studios has remodeled and revitalized the Avengers: Kang Dynasty into Avengers: Doomsday. Fans continue to ponder what might have been if the Kang storyline hadn’t been impacted by Majors’ controversies. Here’s hoping that with sufficient passage of time, Marvel Studios will be able to resurrect the character post a reboot.
