Sarah Silverman is giving a glimpse into her family’s story.
For more than half a century following the sudden demise of her elder brother Jeffrey Silverman at just three months, the comic revealed that her father had once shared with her that their late grandfather Max Silverman was allegedly behind this tragic event.
In an interview with Rolling Stone on May 18, Sarah, who has sisters Susan Silverman and Laura Silverman, clarified that Jeffrey’s unfortunate incident occurred with the crib. She stated that his tiny body moved and he was suffocated as a result. However, she emphasized that there was never any legal action taken against the crib manufacturer or related entities.
Following her stage performance of “Bedwetter” in the year 2022, Donald Silverman (her father) had the opportunity to attend, a year prior to his passing. During this time, he opened up about the events that took place concerning her older brother, who was born well before her.
The individual recounted, “My father once told me, ‘I believed he was crying or something, and I ended up shaking him violently,'” at the age of 54. “He admitted to losing his temper and causing his death,” he added, immediately realizing, “That’s exactly what transpired.
As a devoted follower, I’d like to share that the voice actor of Wreck-It Ralph, who lost his mother Beth Ann O’Hara in 2015, spoke fondly about his paternal grandmother, Rose Silverman. He often mentioned how she was always steadfast by her husband’s side.
Sarah added, “I couldn’t ask my mom, because she was dead.”
Following her confession, she acknowledged that it held merit, particularly considering her father’s emotionally distressing upbringing.
She shared with the media that his father frequently and cruelly physically abused him each day. Interestingly, his younger brother was never harmed in this manner. The children were required to address their father as “Mr. Silverman.
Sarah, who started dating Rory Albanese in 2020, has accepted her family’s past, but admitted that she once humorously addressed her brother’s tragic early demise using an inappropriate joke.
In her 2014 memoir titled “The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee,” as reported by NPR, she described an incident where my grandmother drove us to our Sunday breakfast at a local diner. She told us to fasten our seat belts, but I thought she was about to die, so I jokingly said, “Yeah, we don’t want to end up like Jeffrey.” My sisters stared at me in disbelief, and my grandmother started crying.
In retrospect, I learned from that event that occasionally, my humor can come with repercussions. A valuable lesson indeed!
In her own words, she stated, “People might consider me edgy, but really, there’s a sense of security in my actions because I’m often the one who’s naive.” However, if you pay attention to the circumstances and not just catchy phrases, you’ll realize that I’m usually the one lacking knowledge.
She found that regardless of the topic she discusses or the unfortunate incident, disturbing, or grim situation depicted in her work, she is consistently portrayed as the fool.
