Renowned BAFTA winner Lenny Rush is back on our screens with an all-new blend of humor and the uncanny, entitled “The Unwilling Vampire.
Title Character of “Am I Being Unreasonable?” and “Doctor Who,” Rush takes on the role in an upcoming teen comedy series. The story revolves around a young character who discovers he’s not actually a vampire, forcing him to maintain a dual existence.
The six-episode show, inspired by works by Eric Morecambe, is set in an idyllic, ageless English hamlet. However, this charming setting harbors a dark secret – a castle on the hill where vampires reside, emerging at night for a clandestine sip of blood from the village inhabitants.
Val grew up in an ordinary vampire family, yet he’s always felt out of place and unable to live up to his father’s expectations. After an unexpected encounter with his reflection, Val discovers that he is not actually undead at all.
In order to conceal a significant secret, Val finds himself in a challenging situation as he seeks to understand his true identity by interacting with locals and grasping their unique customs. Balancing between two realms, he cherishes his parents (not overly fond of his competitive brother), while fulfilling his vampire responsibilities according to his father’s expectations. This proves difficult because his father is deeply traditional, yet they both share an undead existence, which the villagers dislike intensely.

The show is known for its emotional storyline, which explores an individual’s journey to discover their identity amidst a desire to belong, as well as the complexities of juggling personal relationships with societal pressures, and the internal conflict between adhering to expectations and rebelling against the predefined path.
Lenny Rush expressed his gratitude for having the opportunity to breathe life into a creation originating from the comedic genius of Eric Morecambe. He admires the portrayal by Rob and Neil immensely, finding their rendition filled with numerous funny lines and innovative concepts.
“The flying might be a stretch but I’m game for anything!”
Jon Petrie, head of comedy at the BBC, commented: “The Reluctant Vampire fits perfectly with the unique comedies we are eager to produce here.
Rob and Neil Gibbons skillfully transform Eric Morecambe’s material into a witty sitcom packed with both hilarious jokes and heartfelt feelings. Led by the exceptionally talented Lenny Rush, we predict this comedy will shine among the best of the year.
