Jimmy Kimmel has a new title on his resume: grandfather.
Following his absence from the May 19 taping of his late-night talk show, he shared with the audience the following evening that he had a delightful reason: his daughter, Katie Kimmel, and her husband, Will Logsdon, had just welcomed their first child into the world together.
Jimmy shared with the audience on May 20 that our scheduled performance didn’t occur because his daughter, who goes by the name Katie (she’s 83 years old), gave birth to a baby girl last night, coincidentally during the same timeframe we were filming our show.
Additionally, Jimmy, who is Katie’s co-parent along with their son Kevin, 31, from his past relationship with Gina Maddy, and father of Jane, 10, and Billy, 8, with wife Molly McNearney, emphasized the significance of supporting Katie in this situation.
1) He stated that he chose to go there rather than stay here, he said. “The baby is doing exceptionally well,” he added, “They named her something adorable.”
2) In his own words, he opted for being over here, he clarified. “The baby’s in excellent health,” he pointed out, “and they picked a really sweet name for her.
Jimmy playfully suggested that his daughter-in-law, who got married in 2021, chose the name “Melania Thee Stallion” as a combination of Melania Trump and Megan Thee Stallion for their first child. However, he later clarified that they actually named their daughter “Patti Joan.
As a devoted supporter, I’m not alone in cheering for Katie and Will to grow their small family. At 57, I’ve confirmed that there are others joining me in this endeavor.
“We had an army of family at the hospital,” he explained. “It was bigger than Coachella.”
Jimmy was unable to hide his enthusiasm about becoming a grandfather, and even joked that he wouldn’t have much responsibility for the child. In fact, he reminisced about some unusual lessons he learned from his grandfathers, such as painting the interior of a microwave and bowling using an overhand throw.
As he quipped, “I have to think of something weird to teach my grandkids.”
