When it became known that the filming of Avengers: Doomsday commenced in April, approximately a year and a half prior to its scheduled release in May 2026, there was much speculation about whether they would manage to complete it on schedule.
It appears that the movie, along with its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, will not be released on their original dates. Instead, they have both been pushed back for a new release schedule since they are being filmed simultaneously.
The movie “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for release over the holiday season, specifically on December 18th, 2026. Following that, “Secret Wars” will be released a year later on December 17th, 2027.
As a cinephile, I’m excitedly anticipating the release of Doomsday and Dune: Part Two sequel, Dune: Messiah, which are currently slated for the same day. However, given the dynamic nature of the film industry, it wouldn’t come as a shock if there were some adjustments to that schedule before we reach that point.

In May 2026, the position previously held by Avengers: Doomsday will now be occupied by the much anticipated follow-up to The Devil Wears Prada, which is set for release by Disney as well.
The reorganization of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s release calendar implies that the upcoming Spider-Man movie featuring Tom Holland, titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” will now debut ahead of both the newly announced Avengers films, instead of being sandwiched between them as initially intended.
Earlier this year, the lineup for Avengers: Doomsday was officially revealed, boasting a total of 27 characters so far, with additional characters anticipated to join the roster soon.
In the cast reprising their roles for the movie are original Avengers like Chris Hemsworth playing Thor, newcomers to the Avengers team including Florence Pugh portraying Yelena Belova, members from the Fantastic Four including Pedro Pascal acting as Reed Richards, and X-Men characters with Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X.
In the upcoming scenario, everyone will be up against Robert Downey Jr., reprising his role as Dr. Doom, a character he portrayed earlier in the series from 2008 to 2019, where he was also Iron Man.
