Excited Nintendo enthusiasts have plenty to anticipate in the coming weeks, with more reasons to rejoice possibly on the horizon. If the whispers are true, a forthcoming Nintendo Direct broadcast may be imminent. As reported by Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe (Famiboards), also known as the leaker PH Brazil, this direct will likely occur either during the week of the anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 or in the subsequent week. Alas, the leaker did not disclose any specifics about what will be unveiled. Nonetheless, we can make some educated guesses about what to anticipate, based on existing knowledge.
During the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct broadcast, several titles were unveiled that are set for release in 2023. Among the first-party games displayed, only Mario Kart World, Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, and Donkey Kong Bananza have definitive launch dates confirmed. The remaining games – Drag x Drive, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Kirby Air Riders, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment – are still without specific release dates, although it’s expected that most, if not all, will be coming out this year. A future Direct event either around or post the Nintendo Switch 2 launch could offer Nintendo an opportunity to highlight games releasing later in the year and possibly announce more titles as well.
Just as one would approach any rumor with caution, waiting for an official confirmation, there’s a growing sense that we might witness a Nintendo Direct in June. The video game industry tends to use June as a strategic month to reveal plans for the remainder of the year and hint at future projects. Notably, Nintendo has historically used this month to unveil major announcements. For instance, last year’s June Direct brought shocking reveals like the games “Mario & Luigi: Brothership” and “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom”, which hit shelves a few months later. So, while we wait for an official statement, it’s plausible to keep an eye on June as a potential date for exciting Nintendo news.
Based on Nintendo’s current roster of games, it seems challenging to anticipate any unexpected first-party releases in 2025. Given the monthly schedule of announced titles, the year appears quite busy. However, we shouldn’t rule out announcements from third-parties, and there might be hints about upcoming projects in the following months. As for 2026, it remains a bit of an enigma at this point. With a new Mario movie scheduled for April 2023, speculation is rife that Nintendo may release a new 3D Mario game or a sequel to Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Additionally, there’s a possibility of further announcements for the Switch, such as remasters of classic games, which recent trademark filings seem to suggest.
The anticipated release of Nintendo Switch 2 is set for June 5th, which suggests that if Nintendo does indeed hold a Direct presentation that week, we can expect the announcement shortly. If it gets delayed until later in the month, fans won’t lack entertainment options with the arrival of the new console. It’s been quite some time since a fresh Nintendo system hit the market, and there’s certainly a buzz surrounding this one.
