Netflix has concluded one of its longest-running original animated series, “Big Mouth,” after eight seasons and a total of eight years on air. This summer, Netflix is providing a wealth of animation content, one of which marks the end of this long-standing franchise. First introduced to the platform in 2017, “Big Mouth” quickly captivated animation enthusiasts with its unique and unparalleled style. Since then, it has consistently delivered episodes, cementing its place as a fan favorite.
Big Mouth” is not just known for its wildness among the offerings from the streaming service, but it’s also one of Netflix’s longest-running animated originals and one of their longest-standing original shows in general. While a few others are approaching its eight season record (and have surpassed it in total runtime), “Big Mouth” has stood out as one of Netflix’s key pillars for some time. However, as of this week, the series “Big Mouth” has officially concluded its run.
Big Mouth Ends With Netflix After 8 Years
As I watch, I can’t help but notice that the much-loved animated show Big Mouth, now in its eighth and final season, is streaming live on Netflix. Produced by a talented team including Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Jennifer Flackett, and Mark Levin, this season consists of ten half-hour episodes, each brimming with laughter and emotion. The animation, skillfully crafted at Titmouse, features the returning voice cast from earlier seasons, with stars like Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, and many others gracing us with their presence. Just as its previous seven seasons did, this final run is also filled to the brim with an array of popular guest stars.
For the grand finale of Big Mouth, we welcomed an array of extraordinary guest stars such as Cynthia Erivo, Steve Buscemi, Kristen Wiig, Quinta Brunson, Nathan Fillion, Ali Wong, Richard Kind, Maria Bamford, Keke Palmer, David Thewlis, Thandiwe Newton, Natasha Lyonne, Aidy Bryant, Rosie Perez, Lena Waithe, Billy Porter, Stephanie Beatriz, Whitmer Thomas, Chelsea Peretti, Chloe Fineman, June Diane Raphael, Zach Woods, Craig Robinson and Jack McBrayer. Just like past guest stars in the series, you’ll be left guessing whose voices these are until they appear with fresh new characters that add an unexpected twist to the finale.
What Is Big Mouth’s Final Season About?
In these last episodes of Big Mouth Season 8, Netflix hints that “Nothing stirs up hormones or heartache quite like high school.” As a fan, I’m thrilled to see these long-time friends moving forward into adulthood, which seems to promise a satisfying conclusion after so many years. However, if the past seasons are any indication, it promises to be one heck of a rollercoaster ride! This animated series is truly unique, and once it’s over, there won’t be anything else quite like it out there.
Big Mouth deviates from the usual storylines of long-running original franchises, instead setting up for its conclusion by subtly developing character arcs over time. After years of growth, these characters are now maturing, signaling that it’s time for the creators to shift their focus to other projects they have lined up with Netflix, like the upcoming Mating Season.
