Three Marvel Studios films have been postponed after Disney made changes to its release calendar this week. Among the adjustments, the next two eagerly awaited Avengers movies were delayed. Additionally, Disney removed a few movies from their schedule, causing some losses in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
According to Variety, Disney’s updated schedule no longer includes three previously planned Marvel movies without titles. One of these Marvel films, initially set for release on February 13, 2026, has been entirely taken off the schedule. On the other hand, two other unnamed Marvel Studios projects, originally slated for November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, have been renamed as upcoming Disney films instead.
2025 will see three Marvel Studios films, but the schedule change means there will only be two films in 2026 (Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday) and two in 2027 (Avengers: Secret Wars and an Untitled Marvel Studios film on July 23, 2027). The upcoming Marvel Studios release is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, scheduled for July 25, 2025.
The decision aligns with statements made by Disney CEO Bob Iger, who indicated that Marvel Studios would prioritize quality over quantity in the upcoming years. This means there will likely be fewer Marvel Studios films released annually, possibly as few as two or three. This adjustment in release schedule seems to be the initial implementation of this new approach, with Disney removing some of the Untitled Marvel films from its planned releases.
What Marvel Movies Did Disney Cut?
The Marvel movies Disney took off the schedule didn’t have titles yet, making it unknown which ones got cancelled. Two upcoming Marvel films, Armor Wars (originally a series for Disney+, now a film) and the problematic Blade movie (which has changed release dates and directors several times), are still on the schedule without specific release dates. It seems these movies might have been intended for 2026 and 2027, but weren’t ready enough in development to keep their spots.
Significantly, these reductions mean that there are now just four more movies left for release in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, making the Untitled Marvel Studios film in July 2027 particularly important as we approach the saga’s conclusion. Some have suggested that this could be where the third Doctor Strange movie might be situated, given his potential role as a mediator between the two Avengers films due to his connection with the Multiverse.
If Marvel manages to speed up the production of the upcoming Blade movie, it could potentially function as a prequel story for the vampire hunter. This approach mirrors how Marvel introduced Carol Danvers with Captain Marvel, positioning it between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Other potential Marvel Studios films that may be moved to Phase 7 could include the third Black Panther film, the sequel to Shang-Chi, and the reboot of the X-Men universe within the MCU.
