There’s no denying that the creation of Nicktoons was a significant factor in Nickelodeon‘s incredible success! As an animated programming brand under Nickelodeon, the Nicktoons name first emerged in 1991 with beloved shows like “Ren & Stimpy,” “Doug,” and “Rugrats.” Over the years, the NickToons line has grown and evolved, giving birth to countless stories and series.
Fast forward to today, it’s tough to find someone who doesn’t adore Spongebob Squarepants, which has undeniably become the most popular entry in this ever-expanding category! Nickelodeon is capitalizing on this popularity by rebranding the classic title for this summer, paying tribute to Bikini Bottom. As a huge fan, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
This coming summer, “NickToons” is set to be rebranded as “NickSpongebob,” with the cable network planning a summer dedicated to the world of Spongebob Squarepants. Although it doesn’t necessarily mean that every show on Nickelodeon will now revolve around the Krusty Krab crew, this move underscores the massive success of the franchise. The temporary name change, announced recently, seems to be a summer-only event. With its fifteenth season underway and numerous feature-length films and spin-off series in production, it looks like Spongebob Squarepants isn’t slowing down anytime soon!
A Spongebob Summer
Currently, as this article is being penned, “SpongeBob SquarePants” stands as the longest-running children’s animated series, debuting on Nickelodeon in 1999. For more than a quarter of a century, the show’s protagonist and his companions have been busy flipping Krabby Patties whenever they get the chance. Beyond the original series, the franchise has produced two major spin-offs: “The Patrick Star Show” and “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Early Years”.
Apart from Patrick getting his unique surreal series, other inhabitants of Bikini Bottom were also granted their own stories through full-length films. For instance, “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie” and “Plankton: The Movie” delved into unexplored corners of the underwater world, primarily focusing on a significant ally or adversary of the Krusty Krab’s fry cook. As the show continues to thrive with decades behind it, there’s a strong possibility that characters like Mr. Krabs, Squidward, or Pearl may soon receive their own movies.
The Voice of Spongebob Speaks
In the previous year, our team at egmr.ru had a fascinating conversation with Tom Kenny, the voice actor who has given life to SpongeBob SquarePants since the show’s beginning. During this chat, Kenny discussed how creator Stephen Hillenburg’s influence on the series continues even after his untimely death, “I think you and Patrick share some of Steve’s essence now that you bring it up. A significant portion of SpongeBob’s character can be traced back to Steve, and we add our own ‘mustard,’ if you will. We simply follow the script, trusting its guidance, as it’s like having a GPS telling us the way. The directions are clear and well-defined.
