Watching ITV’s latest documentary, “Brianna: A Mother’s Story,” is highly recommended. This compelling production provides a glimpse into the life and tragic death of Brianna Ghey, a young woman who was taken too soon at the tender age of 16.
During a 75-minute broadcast, Esther, Brianna’s mom, shares intimate insights about her beloved daughter. Additionally, interviews are included from friends and relatives who had the pleasure of knowing and cherishing Brianna deeply.
In this documentary, Brianna’s story unfolds primarily via the perspectives of her mother, stepfather, and dearest companions – a crucial aspect in its development according to Esther.
During a Q&A session following the documentary screening, Esther expressed: “I’m deeply moved after watching it, and I might not articulate my feelings perfectly. However, when you experience the loss of a child in such high-profile, tragic circumstances, your child somehow feels like they belong to everyone – this is how I can describe my feelings.
Anyone can write or create whatever they choose, including films. It was crucial for me to collaborate with someone I trusted, and equally essential to ensure the documentary was truthful and portrayed Brianna as she truly is.
Esther continued to commend Brianna’s friends who were part of the documentary, expressing that they had done an exceptional work.

In the month of February, 2023, Brianna Ghey tragically lost her life due to being stabbed. The individuals responsible for this crime, Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, received life imprisonment in February 2024.
Previously, Esther mentioned in a statement that she participated in the documentary so that her family’s story would be accurately portrayed, and others could come to know Brianna just as we did.
The movie was produced by MultiStory Media, and its director, Iwan Roberts, emphasized the significance of capturing the right “mood” for the documentary.
In a recent Q&A session, Roberts suggested expressing the details of the crime in a sensitive manner, emphasizing the importance of conveying its gravity effectively.
Our conversations, particularly with Esther and within our team, focus on deciding how to handle situations, film them effectively, and asking questions that evoke emotional responses. These discussions help us determine the reasons for including certain elements in our work. A substantial amount of preparation, review, and adjustments are made to ensure we’re hitting the right tone.
