Euphoria Star Has "No F-cking Idea" What's Going on With Season 3

As a devoted fan of Euphoria who’s been through the emotional rollercoaster that this series has put us all through, I can’t help but feel like I’m watching my own life unfold on screen sometimes. The anticipation, the uncertainty, the heartbreak, and the unwavering hope for a brighter future – it feels almost too real.

Ever since its debut two seasons ago, I’ve been hooked on HBO’s “Euphoria.” With its gripping plotlines and an ensemble cast that’s now shining brightly, it’s no wonder everyone’s talking about it. Finally, we have official news that filming for the third season is set to start in January 2025! Yet, even one of the series’ stars, Hunter Schaefer (who plays Jules), seems uncertain about what lies ahead for this captivating drama. In a recent interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, she confessed that she’s as clueless as we are about what’s in store for season 3.

“Schaefer disclosed that you’re free to question every member of the cast. The truth is, quite a bit has taken place.”

Schafer commented, “Everyone seems to have some degree of excitement about the possibility of Season 3. However, I must admit that I’m still grappling with the aftermath and the loss of people whom we held dear and who were integral to our ‘family’. If we decide to return, it will undoubtedly be challenging.”

Will Euphoria Season 3 Have a Time Jump?

Based on earlier sources, Sam Levinson, the mastermind behind Euphoria, shared his ideas for Season 3 as early as 2023. The initial concepts promised intriguing plotlines for Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie Howard and Jacob Elordi’s Nate Jacobs. However, issues arose when Levinson submitted the complete scripts after the end of last year’s writers’ strike. One reason for these problems was that Levinson needed to adjust Angus Cloud’s character Fezco’s involvement, who was supposed to play a significant role in Season 3 before his passing in July 2023. In the first draft of the season, Rue, played by Zendaya, was depicted working behind the scenes as a detective. However, Zendaya proposed a new storyline where Rue, now sober, becomes a pregnancy surrogate.

According to reports, HBO officials felt that the revised scripts by Levinson, submitted around late 2023 and early 2024, didn’t align with the original show’s tone. While there have been suggestions about concluding Euphoria as a movie or special episodes, or even having Levinson depart from the series, the cast is still contracted for a third season and are eager to complete it.

When Will Euphoria Season 3 Premiere?

An update from a few months ago indicates that due to a pushback, the actors of Euphoria will be informed about the production plans for Season 3 on October 1st, which is tentatively scheduled for 2025. This production could span approximately 25 weeks, and there’s a possibility that the number of episodes might decrease from eight to six. HBO executive Casey Bloys has mentioned before that a significant portion of Season 3’s practicalities revolve around coordinating the schedules of the ensemble cast members.

In his recent talk, Bloys stated, “It’s clear that each cast member has risen to stardom, which is wonderful to witness, with Zendaya being a notable movie star. From a practical perspective, this success plays a role. However, the stories Sam wants to tell are crucial as well. At the moment, he’s immersed in writing Season 3, and we’ll discuss further what he plans for the show.”
