Eva Mendes Remembers Late Brother: Heartfelt Tribute Nearly9 Years On

Eva Mendes is paying tribute to her late brother, Juan Carlos Mendes.

The actress from “The Hitch” has revealed some thoughts on how she’s continued her older brother’s memory in the time since his passing due to cancer in 2016, at the age of 53. One aspect of this is celebrating his special days.

She posted on Instagram on March 24, “Today should have been my brother’s birthday, but sadly, he passed away nearly 9 years back.

Eva, aged 51, who has daughters Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8, with Ryan Gosling, 44, stated, “Just about two weeks after that, I welcomed our second child into the world.

Accompanying a set of pictures, the first being a selfie of her posed outdoors, cradling a heart-shaped stone to her heart, and the last depicting a heart-shaped cavity in a tree, she penned, “As his birthday approaches, I search for signs that could be from him. Admittedly, this may all be my imagination, but I prefer not to think so. It’s far less enchanting.

As a devoted admirer, I find myself noticing love-filled symbols all around, and there’s an undeniable connection with him at this moment. I can sense that there’s more to unfold in the days ahead.

Immediately following Carlos’ passing, Eva shared her experience of dealing with grief, as she had lost her brother only 12 days prior to the arrival of her and Ryan’s newborn child.

In 2016, she shared with Latina magazine, “That same week, we held a funeral for him, and I gave birth to the baby. It was an incredibly emotional and intense time, filled with sadness, yet there was something profoundly beautiful about it as well.

At that moment, she clarified that she hadn’t had a lot of opportunity to mourn, as her eldest child was barely two years old. The Ghost Rider actress elaborated, “My other child is still an infant, so currently it’s all about getting through those nights and attempting to relish this time with them as much as I can.

However, her family carried her through the tough times.

She remarked, “The loss of my brother drew us even closer as a family, and we were quite close to start with. Witnessing everyone support each other and come together makes me incredibly fortunate to be part of this family.

Reflecting on those memorable moments months later, I had the profound honor of accepting the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical award at the 2017 Golden Globes. Standing on that stage, I couldn’t help but share a deeply personal story about my family’s journey. While I was immersed in bringing the characters of La La Land to life, my partner was tirelessly caring for our daughter, preparing to welcome our second child, and providing unwavering support to her brother as he courageously battled cancer.

After expressing gratitude towards her and their daughters, he didn’t forget to honor his deceased brother-in-law as well.

“If I may,” he added, “I’d like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendes.”
