As a gamer with a soft spot for both Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion, I must admit that this new Pachinko game featuring Shin Godzilla and Eva units is like a dream come true! Growing up with these iconic characters, I never imagined seeing them fight against the Shin King Ghidorah together. It’s reminiscent of those late-night battles between my action figures, only now it’s in digital form!
In their initial encounter, the characters from Neon Genesis Evangelion, specifically the Eva pilots, found themselves facing off with Godzilla, the legendary monster and a favorite among anime mech aficionados, in an unexpected manner. At Universal Studios Japan, they’ve developed an attraction where Shin Godzilla clashes against NERV’s top agents in a battle that caught many by surprise. It seems these two fictional worlds are merging once more in a fresh and exciting way. Although this upcoming venture might not be the long-awaited “Shin Universe crossover” that kaiju enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating, it’s certainly worth checking out if you’re a fan of either series.
Previously stated, it was a “Shin” type lizard that confronted the EVA units. If you’re not familiar with this interpretation of the monster king, “Shin Godzilla” represented a fresh take on the kaiju by Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno. The live-action movie came out in 2016 and returned Godzilla to his destructive character, as he wreaked havoc across a war-torn Japan in “Godzilla Minus One“. With the scariest appearance yet for the kaiju king, “Shin Godzilla” is often praised as one of the best films in Godzilla’s history, paving the way for “Shin Ultraman” and “Shin Kamen Rider“.
Godzilla x Eva: The Game
Interestingly enough, it’s often through Japan’s enthusiasm for Pachinko that franchises experience a surprising revival. These arcade machines filled with steel balls are often partnered with videos and themes, which has provided an opportunity for classics like Shin Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion to reunite. Not only do they encounter each other, but their universes will unite to tackle the menace of Shin King Ghidorah – a modernized version of the classic kaiju who was exclusively available at Universal Studios Japan for a long period.

The Future of Shin
In promotional content and merchandise, characters from the Shin Universe are often depicted battling together. These heroes include Shin Godzilla, Shin Kamen Rider, Shin Ultraman, and NERV’s pilots, all of whom were brought to life by director Hideaki Anno. However, Anno has not yet confirmed whether he plans to develop new projects within the Shin Universe, leading some to speculate that a grand cinematic crossover featuring these characters may never materialize. Despite this, it’s important to note that Anno is not finished creating new works altogether.
In a thrilling turn of events, Anno is making a comeback to the realm of anime, being involved in a fresh Space Battleship Yamato movie project. His affection for this series has been demonstrated numerous times in the past. This development comes after his earlier announcement of taking a sabbatical from the entertainment industry, demonstrating that his passion for storytelling is unwavering and keeps drawing him back.
Regarding Neon Genesis Evangelion, there’s been no official confirmation about upcoming projects yet, but creator Hideaki Anno has suggested that a new story might be in development. On the kaiju side, Legendary’s MonsterVerse will bring us a third Godzilla vs Kong movie. Ultraman had a self-produced animated film on Netflix, and Kamen Rider continues to churn out new series and films within its dynamic universe. While we might not witness the Shin Universe continue, these characters are far from retiring.
