Even Death Stranding 2’s Luca Marinelli Was Fooled by His Solid Snake Appearance

Back when the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach trailer was released, some viewers pointed out the similarity between actor Luca Marinelli and the primary character from Metal Gear Solid.

Indeed, his deception was so effective that he genuinely believed he was part of the upcoming Snake sequel by Kojima Productions.

At Sydney Film Festival, Hideo Kojima shared an interesting tidbit: Marco Beltrami, the composer, mistook his own image for Solid Snake in the given trailer, momentarily thinking that his character was indeed Solid Snake.

Kojima inquired about Marinelli’s thoughts on his appearance in the trailer, to which he responded enthusiastically, expressing joy and admiration: “Snake is fantastic! I’m overjoyed to be Snake!

In a rush, I found myself correcting him, saying, “Nope, I’m not Snake. The only thing I share with him is a bandana on my head!

It’s rather unexpected that the actor would make such a deduction, considering that at that stage, it’s probable that the majority of his motion-capture work had been completed. Moreover, given his familiarity with the character, Neil, he likely already possessed specific details about him.

Maybe he believed he was Snake all along, and information was withheld to avoid spoilers. Or perhaps he pieced together clues about Kojima and MGS and came to that conclusion. There’s also a chance he was just having fun. In any case, it’s intriguing, even if we may never fully understand the truth behind it.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launches next week on 26th June, 2025 for PS5.
