Everything Elle King Has Said About Dad Rob Schneider

As a fan of both Elle King and Rob Schneider, I find myself deeply moved by their unique and complex relationship. It’s fascinating to see how their shared sense of humor has shaped them, yet set them apart from each other.

In case you didn’t know by now, Elle King is Rob Schneider‘s daughter.

The comedian who has been married three times introduces Elle, born Tanner Elle Schneider on July 3, 1989, to his first spouse, London King. They tied the knot in 1988 and parted ways in 1990, which happened to be the same year Rob began working as a writer and performer for Saturday Night Live.

As I shared with Billboard back in 2015, following the success of my Grammy-nominated track “Ex’s and Oh’s” from my debut album “Love Stuff,” I was born into an unexpected union. My parents tied the knot a mere three days after they first crossed paths, a whirlwind Vegas romance that led to my birth.

After reaching the age of 18, she expressed, “Upon maturity, I adopted my mother’s surname as she was instrumental in raising me, and I desired to establish my individual identity.”

Elle has always been open about regarding her mother, who has been with her stepfather, musician Justin Tesa, since 2000, as her primary source of guidance in life.

She’s mentioned that she spent her summers with her father as a kid and they’ve occasionally performed together. In 2019, they sang a duet during Rob’s performance at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival, and he collaborated with her on a cover of The Beatles’ “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” in a Seattle show in March 2023. Moreover, they performed together to welcome the new year at New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park this year.

However, Elle recently shared an unfavorable depiction of Rob on the “Dumb Blonde” podcast. She claimed that he sent her to a weight loss camp and suggested that she would face difficulties if she interfered with his work while accompanying him to movie sets (her first acting role being “Cookie Girl” in 1999’s “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo”).

And at this point in time, she said, “I don’t want to be associated with him.”

In response to his oldest child publicly criticizing him, Rob joked during the August 14 episode of The Tucker Carlson Show podcast, “Isn’t it enjoyable being a parent?”

However, he expressed, “I merely want to share with my daughter, Elle, that I adore her, and I regret not being the dad she required during my twenties. Unfortunately, I fell short, and I fervently hope she can find it in her heart to forgive me for my imperfections.”

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it as: In my personal experience, at the age of 60, finding myself sharing daughters Miranda (12) and Madeleine (7) with my third wife Patricia Azarcoya Arce, I deeply regret if she ever felt that way. It’s essential to foster understanding and empathy in all our relationships.

And, he noted, “I just want you to know that I don’t take anything you say personally.”

Rob explained to Tucker, who inquired about his ability to stay calm amidst conflict, “When you’re deeply in love, it’s simply… I adore her. My sole wish is for her happiness and healing. I am genuinely sorry for my past actions towards her, and I acknowledge that I wasn’t the parent I am now with my current children.”

In the meantime, Elle has always been honest about her feelings, so if you haven’t heard what she shared about her renowned father, you can get up to speed right here.

In the year 1988, comedian Rob Schneider tied the knot with model London King. Their daughter Elle King made her arrival in July of 1989, just before their separation. Notably, Schneider joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1990.

On the Watch What Happens Live After Show in January 2023, Elle mentioned having numerous recollections from her father’s time on SNL. She added that she can’t disclose much, but she recalled a memory involving Chris Farley and her dad. Chris, as if sitting me down on his lap with a balloon in hand, was performing one of his signature moves—she mimicked a classic Farley grin to illustrate this—and I remember feeling quite scared. Additionally, she remembered seeing Phil Hartman give her father a playful punch in the face.

Later, when they hopped into a taxi, Elle remembered asking something like, “Daddy, I wonder why that man gave you a punch?” in a small, childlike tone.

But to this day Elle doesn’t know why. “I don’t know if he deserved it or not,” she said, “he won’t tell me.”

When Ella was 13 years old, her mother relocated her to live with her father because she had recently gotten her tongue pierced. This detail was shared by the “Ex’s and Oh’s” singer in an interview with Billboard in November 2015.

It so happened that her travel coincided with Rob shooting the 2005 sequel, “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo,” in Amsterdam.

“So, I can roll amazing joints,” Elle said. “Really wonderful.”

Speaking with Billboard, Elle shared, “An essential lesson I’ve picked up is, when you possess a vibrant personality, you can either brighten up a room or cast a gloomy spell. It’s crucial to be mindful of that.”

Born Tanner Elle Schneider, she changed her name to Elle King as soon as she was 18.

She shared with Billboard back in February 2015 that she was born from a union that took place in Las Vegas, and an interesting fact about her parents is that they tied the knot just three days after first meeting each other.

After giving birth to Elle, they went their separate ways several months later. As for her, when she turned 18, she adopted her mother’s surname as a sign of gratitude for the upbringing she received, and to establish her own identity.

When Rob’s daughter achieved success with the song “Ex’s and Oh’s,” he expressed on The Meredith Vieira Show that she had accomplished everything independently. He explained, “She truly did it all by herself. That’s why she insisted on having her own name, because being the child of a well-known person can be challenging. Nevertheless, she managed to do it independently, and I couldn’t be more proud of her.”

In 2015, Elle shared with ABC News, “Indeed, people recognize my father, but I believe my unique voice and music express that I am an individual in my own right.”

Later, she refused to accept the tag that people were quick to attach to children of famous individuals who likewise desired a career in the arts.

Elle mentioned during an episode of Off the Vine With Kaitlyn Bristowe in August 2024 that she didn’t feel like she was labeled as a ‘nepo baby’. Instead of pushing her into show business, her father served more as an obstacle. “At the time I began my acting career and got signed, our relationship wasn’t strong,” she explained. “We weren’t even on speaking terms.”

Elle explained, “My mom was the one constantly encouraging me to learn, driving me to classes, taking care of me, and ensuring I always had a creative avenue.”

Additionally, she acknowledged her stepfather Justin Tesa, who has been with her since 2000, for being a driving force behind her career right from its inception.

The singer shared with ABC News, “He’s the reason I am a musician. I believe there was a musical talent within me, but he recognized it and encouraged me to explore more about music, delve deeper than just mainstream genres, and even learn about the roots of rock and roll.”

Elle takes after both parents, just maybe not in the ways you might assume at first glance.

She declared on “Off the Vine” that her father has an exceptional singing ability. In fact, he reminds me of Elvis! Being Filipino, his talent in singing is particularly impressive, and I can’t deny that some of my charm comes from him.

But, she added, “I got my funny from my mom. My mom is the funniest person that I’ve ever met. We’re easy laughers. I wish I would have gotten some of her height.”

Elle stated on The Kelly Clarkson Show in July 2023 that contrary to popular belief, comedians aren’t necessarily humorous. Instead, she believes many comedians are exceptionally intelligent, possessing a unique perspective. They channel all their happiness into making others laugh off-stage, and this is where they truly shine.

She also mentioned that she spent a lot of time with her father’s companions, who were consistently quite humorous to be in the company of.

In an episode of Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast on August 2024, she publicly called out her father, Rob, revealing that despite a stronger bond in adulthood, their relationship remains uncertain due to his recent political views and opinions.

Currently, Elle expressed that she isn’t in agreement with many of his statements. She also finds herself yearning for him to change significantly, but acknowledged the truth that one cannot dictate another person’s actions or emotions. Instead, all one can manage is their response and how they handle their own feelings.

But, she admitted, “Sometimes I f–king boil up, and I boil over, and I f–king bust my lid.”

Once she began gaining prominence, Elle went on to say, “That’s when people started inquiring about my father. My dad then called me and said, ‘Stop discussing me in the media.’ Essentially, he was saying, ‘Don’t talk about me.’ I replied, ‘I don’t care,’ effectively conveying, ‘Go bother someone else.'”

In the show Dumb Blonde, Elle mentioned that her father made her attend a weight loss camp during her summers at age 11 and 12. One summer, when she injured her ankle and failed to shed any pounds, she faced discipline for not losing weight.

She described it as being both extremely harmful and absurd, she remarked. When she began gaining recognition within the music industry, she preferred not to emphasize her familial connections, stating, “He’s simply not kind.”

In response to Elle’s “Dumb Blonde” interview, Rob expressed on Tucker Carlson’s podcast that he didn’t take what Elle said in a personal manner, he has fond feelings for her, and he regretted that she seemed to be in pain.

The comedian admitted, “I truly regret and take full blame for not being the parent I am now with my newer children, as it seems she didn’t understand, and I failed to grasp many moments.”
