The drug is frequently combined with Ecstasy, methamphetamine, opioids and psychoactive substances such as bath salts, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration and epidemiologists who spoke with The New York Times.
In response to growing curiosity about this substance due to Payne’s passing, epidemiologist Dr. Linda Cottler explained to the Times that it is typically quite affordable, a factor that often entices individuals to utilize it.
The National Capital Poison Center pointed out that this substance is also known by various names such as Tusi (which sounds like “2C” due to its association with the 2-CB psychedelic drug), as well as Tuci, Tusibi, and Tucibi.
The substance is employed to induce feelings of open-mindedness, sociability, and intense joy, according to the Center. They also warned that it might result in incidents of physical and sexual aggression, as well as severe injuries.

The singer suffered a fatal fall “from the balcony of the third-floor room of the hotel in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo where he was staying,” according to an Oct. 17 release from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 translated from Spanish to English.
An autopsy was performed, the release continued, and determined Payne died of “multiple trauma” and “internal and external hemorrhage” as a result of the fall.
While the release said that, “as a matter of protocol, the circumstances of the case are being investigated as a ‘doubtful death,'”—meaning there was no conclusive information about the cause of death, per NBC News—it noted that “everything indicates the musician was alone when the fall occurred, and was going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse.”
Payne has spoken about his battle with sobriety in the past, sharing in a July 2023 YouTube video that he’d attended treatment for about 100 days and that he hadn’t had a drink in about six months.
The medical examiner’s report stated that Payne suffered 25 injuries consistent with falling from a great height during the autopsy. These injuries, which included head trauma severe enough to cause death, internal and external hemorrhages in various parts of his body, suggested the mechanism of his demise.
According to the statement released by prosecutors, it seems that Payne fell from the third-floor balcony of CasaSur Palermo hotel at 5:07 p.m. local time. Cassidy stated in a video uploaded on October 14th that she was eager to return to the U.S., expressing her affection for South America but her discomfort with staying put for extended periods. Originally planning to stay for five days, they ended up being there for two weeks instead, prompting her to feel the need to head home.
Following Liam Payne’s passing, the bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan voiced their deep sorrow. In a joint Instagram post on October 17th, they wrote: “We are utterly devastated by the news of Liam’s demise. As time passes and everyone is ready, there will be more to share.
