Is there going to be a Shogun season two?

Absolutely! Previously, it was announced that the network, along with Hulu and the estate of James Clavell, have plans to produce not only a second season but also a third season for the series.

Based on the first part being adapted from Clavell’s book, the upcoming sequel should delve deeper into uncharted territories.

Rachel Kondo, one of the creators of the show together with Justin Marks, described it to The Hollywood Reporter in June as a situation full of dynamic creativity, where they’re attempting everything they can think of and observing what works best. She added that it has been exhilarating yet anxious because, naturally, this is uncharted waters for us; we don’t have a guide, just the lessons from history.

Utilizing Clavell’s estate, they are endeavoring to delve into his methodology of collection. However, Marks pointed out, there still remain numerous unanswered questions. He expressed to THR that the allure lies in exploring those hidden aspects of history where theories diverge, such as “Oh, it’s believed this happened, but something else truly took place.” Despite this, it seems the series duration may not be as uncertain as these mysteries. Marks stated, “The third season serves as an ending. We have a clear beginning and end point, and we know who will embark on this journey with us. For now, our primary focus is on part two to ensure we reach that destination. Yet, part two can be considered a more somber chapter in comparison to other sequels.

When will Shogun season two premiere?

Although a specific launch date hasn’t been disclosed yet, Sanada, who is also involved in the production team, hinted that they are just beginning the creative process and development phase.

He informed the Television Academy during the 2024 Emmys that we had made a choice to move ahead. However, we merely initiated the writing process and are now contemplating where to film next.
