All New & Returning Mechanics in Magic: The Gathering Bloomburrow

In the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Bloomtender set, you’ll encounter several fresh and recurring mechanisms. These include novel keywords such as “Offspring” and modal spells. Here’s a simplified explanation:

  • Offspring – This is a new keyword found on creature cards. It allows players to pay an additional mana cost to create a token copy of the original card. However, it only has 1 power and 1 toughness (1/1).
  • Gift – Players can promise Gifts, such as food tokens or drawing a card, to their opponent. In return, they will receive a unique advantage.
  • Forage – This is a new action that allows players to exile three cards from their graveyard or sacrifice a food token to trigger varying effects.
  • Valiant – This is a new keyword found on creature cards. It triggers a bonus effect for that creature whenever it is targeted by a spell or ability.
  • Expend – This new rule term tracks how much mana a player has spent throughout a turn, then grants boons based on the number of mana used while the Expend term was in play.
  • Modal Spells – Players can choose to spend up to five ‘pawprints’ to activate different effects listed on this new card type. Each effect will cost between one to three pawprints to trigger and can be activated more than once.

Imagine: Courageous Critters Planeswalkers

As a huge fan of Magic: The Gathering, I’m thrilled to share that Bloomburrow, a new set in this epic game, introduces 24 Imagine: Courageous Critters Planeswalkers cards. These cards are a must-have for any collector or strategic player. Among them are some legendary characters like Jace, The Mind Sculptor, Liliana of the Dark Realms, and Nissa, Who Shakes the World.

Full Art Cards

In the Bloomburrow collection, you’ll encounter numerous breathtaking full-art cards, some even created by esteemed guest artists such as David Peterson and Mitsuhiro Arita. Here are a few examples showcasing this set’s distinct full-art cards:

Helga, Skittish Seer

The Gathering’s Bloomburrow set, is a remarkably potent card boasting beautiful artwork by David Peterson. Every time you cast a creature spell with a mana cost of at least 4, you are rewarded with drawing a card, adding to your life total, and enhancing Helga with a +1/+1 counter. Moreover, whenever Helga is tapped, you can generate X mana of any color according to her power level and employ it to cast creature spells requiring a mana cost of 4 or more.

Lumra, Bellow of the Woods

Lumra, Bellow of the Woods is the terrifying Elemental Bear and a Legendary Creature. Its art was done by Mitsuhiro Arita, who encapsulates the truly thunderous bellow of Lumra. This card has both Vigilanace and Reach and its power and toughness are equal to the number of lands in your control. Additionally, when you play Lumra, you get to mill four cards and then return every land card in your graveyard back to the battlefield. This boosts Lumra’s power and toughness right out of the gate.

Woodland Frames

In the Bloomburrow deck, there are 42 cards showcasing distinct Woodland frames. These intricately designed borders, exclusive to each faction, encircle the cards with vines and leaves. The subtle variations between these frames significantly change the appearance of the captivating artwork on every card.

Seasonal Changes

In Bloomburrow’s game, you’ll feel like you’re really there due to the beautiful full-art basic land cards. They perfectly capture the lush valleys and thick forests of Bloomburrow while reflecting the passing seasons. These basic lands will come in four different versions: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Additionally, there’s a Legendary Land card called Three Tree City, which has distinct representations for each season.
