For nearly four decades, “The Simpsons” has remained Springfield’s beloved family, showing no signs of wrapping up their long-running series. Now in its thirty-sixth season, an exciting new storyline is being hinted at involving time travel and will be exclusive to Disney+. Although Disney+ has previously released special episodes featuring Homer, Marge, Maggie, Lisa, and Bart, this upcoming installment, titled “The Past And The Furious,” promises a detailed exploration of Springfield’s infamous villain, Mr. Burns, and can only be viewed on the platform. The title isn’t just a playful pun but also signals an in-depth investigation into the life of Mr. Burns.
In their latest announcement, it’s been disclosed that “The Past And The Furious” will debut on Disney+ on February 12th instead of Fox. This particular episode sees Lisa venturing into the 1920s and meeting a younger version of Mr. Burns, the owner of Springfield’s Nuclear Power Plant. According to Disney+, this special episode follows Lisa as she journeys back to 1923, where she learns that the Springfield Mini Moose, once vital to the town, were unfortunately wiped out in 1925. In an effort to save these creatures, Lisa collaborates with a younger Monty Burns, but her actions unwittingly pave the way for him to become the ruthless tycoon we know today.
Simpsons’ Disney+ History
More recently, “The Simpsons” unveiled a holiday special on a streaming service, featuring Homer Simpson as the new Santa Claus in “O C’mon All Ye Faithful”. Unlike the shorter episodes earlier, this special was longer in duration but considered more of a special event rather than a full-fledged episode. Additionally, the franchise has been leveraging Disney+ to explore crossovers, such as the Simpson family’s adventures in the “Star Wars” universe, encounters with Marvel’s Loki, and Lisa performing with Billie Eilish. At present, the platform offers all thirty-five seasons of the series, “The Simpsons Movie”, and a compilation of shorts.
Over the past few days, The Simpsons has been making headlines for various reasons. One of the major stories was the announcement that the show will shift from airing on Sunday nights to Wednesday nights later this year, marking the first change in its scheduling in decades. Additionally, actress Pamela Hayden, who lent her voice to characters such as Milhouse, Rod and Todd Flanders, Jimbo Jones, said goodbye to the show. As the animated series is slated for several more seasons, it remains uncertain when the longest-running animated series in North America will conclude its run.
