The creator behind Superman, both in writing and directing, has shared a sneak peek at the upcoming DC Studios film titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, revealing what seems to be the interstellar tavern from the same-named comic book series. James Gunn posted an image on social media featuring Milly Alcock, the actress playing Supergirl, seated in a chair with her character’s emblem on the backrest. The scene appears to show her facing a vibrant bar, although this detail may not be immediately recognizable to casual viewers. However, Sean Izaakse, an artist who has worked on various DC Comics series, acknowledged the similarity by commenting, “Wow! That looks like the bar from the opening of the comic book,” referring to the Tom King and Bilquis Evely-authored series.
In his initial tweet, Gunn acknowledged the source material for the behind-the-scenes photo of Supergirl, expressing excitement about filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden with Craig Gillespie directing and Milly Alcock portraying Kara Zor-El. According to him, Gillespie brings a remarkable touch to the story, while Alcock embodies perfectly the distinct #Supergirl concept by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The film is being produced by Gunn and Peter Safran, who are jointly leading DC Studios as co-chairmen and co-CEOs, supervising the expanding cinematic universe.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be part of DC Studios’ epic saga titled “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.” The mastermind behind this project, Gunn, promises it will be an expansive sci-fi adventure that’s bound to send shivers down the spines of DC fans everywhere.
But here’s what truly sets my heart racing – Krypto, Superman’s super-powered canine companion, is making his big screen debut in this movie! And get this – Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, is jumping into the intergalactic fray as none other than the infamous alien mercenary Lobo. This is one rollercoaster ride I can’t wait to buckle up for!
In different projects, Alcock has made appearances in short films and TV shows. However, her role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon significantly boosted her profile and caught Gunn’s notice. The filmmaker shared on Twitter, “Interestingly, Milly was the very FIRST person I proposed for this role more than a year ago, even before reading the comics. While watching House of the Dragon, I felt she might possess the elegance, authenticity, and charm we needed for our DCU’s Supergirl. And now look at us! Life can be quite unpredictable sometimes.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
