Experience the Future: Fly on the New Gundam-Themed Airline Jet!

Bandai Namco is teaming up with Japan Airlines (JAL) for a fresh collaboration titled “JAL x GUNDAM FLY TO THE FUTURE PROJECT”, which revolves around the popular Gundam series. This unique partnership will introduce a custom-designed aircraft, known as the JAL Gundam Jet, and special merchandise. The aircraft, specifically a Boeing 737-800 (JA342J), will showcase an exterior adorned with a full Gundam theme, based on the RX-78F00/E Gundam mecha from the upcoming “Gundam Next Future Pavilion” expo in Japan. The cabin’s interior will feature distinctive headrest covers for Class J and Economy seats. Starting March 3rd, 2025, passengers can board the JAL Gundam Jet for domestic flights. This special aircraft will continue operations until November 2025.

Recipients of this exclusive travel deal are granted access to a unique Gunpla set – a limited edition 1/144 RX-78F00/E Gundam, specially designed for Japan Airlines (JAL) with distinctive colors and decals. Additionally, passengers can buy an extra 1/144 Gunpla toy of the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam, styled in JAL’s corporate white, red, and gray tones. In collaboration with Bandai, JAL will also debut the JAL x Gundam Restaurant Bus – a double-decker vehicle featuring an open roof, where diners can enjoy gourmet meals served within the bus’ onboard restaurant. This bus will resemble the Gundam Jet in appearance and travel throughout Japan.

Gundam Is a Hot Tourist Attraction in Japan

For years, Japan has been deeply rooted in its affection for Gundam, offering numerous Gundam-themed attractions for tourists to immerse themselves in. Tokyo boasts the famous Gundam Base, an entertainment hub where enthusiasts can procure unique merchandise and watch exclusive animated episodes derived from the model kits. The Gundam Base houses colossal replicas of iconic settings from the anime, such as the A Baoa Qu fortress – the final battleground in the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. Moreover, the Gundam Base features the Gundam Cafe, offering food and beverages with a Gundam theme, along with a life-size reproduction of the Unicorn Gundam.

In Japan, enthusiasts of the Gundam series have three options to explore: one life-size Gundam is based on Nu Gundam and situated in Fukuoka; another operational life-size RX-78 Gundam can be found at the Gundam Factory. Besides admiring these colossal figures, visitors can also tour the factory to witness the manufacturing process of model kits, but it’s recommended to book reservations well ahead of time. Moreover, in 2025, if you happen to be in Japan, you might have the chance to enjoy a Gundam Jet and Restaurant Bus ride courtesy of JAL!
