Aimee Lou Wood is looking back with a new perspective.

The actress from “White Lotus,” who was deeply affected by the series finale, shared why her experience on HBO led her to reconsider her role in Netflix’s “Sex Education,” particularly her intimate scenes. This reflection stemmed from a discussion she had with her co-stars Michelle Monaghan and Carrie Coon about whether nudity was essential for their storylines, which resonated with her before filming resumed.

Aimee shared with GQ in a recently published interview on April 8 that she felt significantly improved because, looking back now, she found something troubling about Sex Ed – she realized it wasn’t so much what she did, but rather the feeling of being the only one in similar situations.

The actress, who has discussed her work with an intimacy coordinator, stated, “During the first season, none of the other main cast members took things as far as I did. I believe this is why I felt vulnerable.

However, although Aimee felt at ease portraying intimate scenes in The White Lotus, she also experienced uncertainty as she navigated the thin boundary between her character and her true self.

For instance, Aimee was often told she was being funny without her actually trying to be.

On the beach, as Chelsea sprints towards Rick (Walton Goggins), Aimee commented, “Frank, the cameraman, said ‘That unusual run you did just then? That’s brilliant. And I thought to myself, ‘Frank, that’s my very own run.’

In the series created by Mike White, the leading actor from Toxic Town grappled with feelings of self-doubt and imposter syndrome following his casting.

Aimee continued, “Someone shared with me how fiercely Mike advocated for me.” They mentioned, “It had to be you, regardless of what HBO decided.” It was genuinely heartwarming, but in my mind I thought, ‘HBO didn’t choose me. And I know why – it’s because I’m not conventionally attractive. Mike must have pleaded, ‘Give the unconventional girl a chance!’

She added, laughing, “That was the thing that was in my head.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea played a significant role in Aimee’s personal development. As Aimee shared, Chelsea’s deep-rooted passion for romance, which eventually proved fatal, resonated with Aimee’s past experiences. Now, Aimee is prepared to move on from such romantic entanglements.

As a die-hard fan, I’ve always found myself drawn to focusing on others, and it was no different when it came to Chelsea.
