Extraordinary way Lauren Sanchez chose Parisian pastry chef Cédric Grolet to design world’s most extravagant cake for wedding to Jeff Bezos

This weekend, an acclaimed French pastry chef known for his stellar work is crafting one of the priciest wedding cakes ever designed, as an exclusive report by DailyMail.com discloses. The cake is intended for the lavish Venice nuptials of Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, and Lauren Sanchez.

As an ardent admirer, I can attest that Cédric Grolet has earned international acclaim and a vast following on social media platforms for his exquisite trompe-l’oeil (artistic illusion) desserts. These masterpieces are meticulously sculpted to mimic the natural beauty of fresh fruit or flowers.

During her bachelorette trip to Paris in May, Sanchez, aged 55, developed a fondness for the stunning artworks of the 39-year-old, which they both encountered. This occasion was graced by A-list friends like Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry, who participated in a lavish tea party at Le Meurice Hotel with the individual in question.

Grolet has been the pastry chef at the five-star institution since 2012.

Information from Paris indicates that Grolet has been crafting a unique, indelible wedding cake for several weeks, which is intended to be a memorable element in the couple’s lavish $20 million wedding ceremony.

A specially designed cake, crafted under utmost confidentiality, will be revealed at their wedding celebration taking place on San Giovanni Evangelista Island, within the picturesque lagoon city, over the coming weekend.

On Tuesday, it was disclosed by The Mail that Grolet played a key part in the wedding, as his name was spotted on a local tour guide’s clipboard while they were gathering passengers at the city’s airport.

Over the course of a lively bachelorette getaway, a former journalist named Sanchez and her stylish companions found Grolet’s pastries and cakes to be extremely charming, as shared by a high-ranking employee at Le Meurice with DailyMail.com.

People were particularly fond of the fact that every piece created by Cédric is both airy and rejuvenating, making them perfect for celebrities who must maintain a careful diet.

Cedric adores meeting new people, especially since he’s well-known for his extraordinary personality and exceptional skills as a French culinary master. This was certainly true when he met Ms. Sanchez and her group.

‘They had such a great rapport that she ended up inviting Cédric to travel to Italy for the wedding, which he will be working at. We can’t help but feel envious!’

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Grolet and his charming influencer partner, Astrid-Olivia Germain, are known to have jet-setted off together to the glamorous lagoon city. Astrid-Olivia frequently shares updates of their travels on social media.

Together, Grolet and Germain live a lavish lifestyle, where the talented pastry artist recently disclosed his purchase of a high-priced Cartier love bracelet for her, valued in the thousands.

Last year, during an interview with the Financial Times, he proudly displayed his extensive collection of exclusive Nike shoes, among them being a pair designed by Travis Scott, which he referred to as a valuable collector’s piece.

Apart from being his residence, his house also features a wine storage room. He’s taken multiple vacations with companions to Bali, Indonesia, and often visits the French Alps for snowboarding trips as well.

With nearly 13 million followers on Instagram and 9 million on TikTok, Grolet attracts a vast number of enthusiasts to his cafes and bakeries worldwide, eager to spend substantial amounts on his delectable pastries.

A petite strawberry pavlova goes for €18 ($20), while an apple tart is priced at €80 ($93). Previously, the chef drew criticism for offering Yule Logs for nearly $100 apiece.

When inquired about the cost of his creations, a source for The Mail stated: ‘Indeed, Cédric’s pieces aren’t inexpensive; they might even rank among the priciest wedding cakes ever crafted.’

Perhaps, given their current friendship, it’s possible that they might receive the cake as a gift instead.

A fellow pastry chef based in Paris commented on Cédric’s enthusiasm: “Cédric is thrilled to be involved in everything – yes, it’s about billionaires, but they’re genuinely approachable individuals who are just looking for some enjoyable experiences.

Grolet’s exceptional skills undeniably bring him substantial income, yet it’s his uniquely crafted cakes, particularly those for weddings, that have the potential to yield a fortune. Prices for these masterpieces often soar well above a thousand dollars.

‘The sky’s the limit if you want a personalized cake,’ said a long-term client of the Grolet shops.

‘You just hand over your design, and they’ll work out the cost’.

Sanchez and Bezos are in regal company in securing a custom cake.

This coming summer, Grolet, known for his social media baking feats with stars like Blake Lively and Zoë Saldana, is set to present a unique dessert in tribute to Prince Albert of Monaco. Once he assumes the role of executive pastry chef at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, he will reveal this special creation.

On Tuesday, DailyMail.com disclosed that Grolet’s name appeared on tour guide Beatrice Bavato’s notepad, listed as ‘staff’, for the London-based high-end wedding organizers Lanza and Baucina.

Examining ‘Valentin’s’ note next to him could offer a clue about the style he might choose for the wedding cake, given his past history of creating cakes with romantic themes.

This year on Valentine’s Day, Grolet posted an online video showing him crafting a remarkably lifelike, vibrant red candy apple.

The revamped sculpted fruits featured a creamy caramel mousse filled with apple bits, all enclosed within layers of Japanese vanilla biscuits and Breton shortbread, and coated with a shiny red icing.

Previously on Valentine’s Day, he made a vanilla cake shaped like a red heart, and decorated it to look like a rose with icing.

When DailyMail.com asked about their wedding cake plans, Grolet chose not to share any details.

Grolet moved to Paris in 2006 and honed his craft at the renowned bakery ‘Fauchon’.

For a period of six years, he worked at Fauchon. Then, starting in 2013, he took on the role of executive pastry chef at Le Meurice’s two Michelin-starred restaurant under the guidance of renowned chef Alain Ducasse.

In my expertise, I can proudly say that my exceptional skill in crafting delectable desserts didn’t go unnoticed. I was delightfully acknowledged by connoisseurs, who honored me with a plethora of accolades. Among these, the most cherished moments were being named the Best Pastry Chef in France in 2015 and later, being bestowed the title of Best Pastry Chef in the World in 2018.

At first, Cedric Grolet’s achievements led him to establish multiple outlets under his own brand. The initial two he opened were both in Paris: “Le Meurice Cédric Grolet” in 2018 and “Cédric Grolet Opera” in 2019.

In 2022, he debuted Cédric Grolet at the prestigious Berkeley hotel in London’s Knightsbridge and later established a patisserie within the upscale Como Metropolitan hotel in Singapore.

He is also an author, with several books of his cakes and desserts published between 2017 and 2022.

Earlier, the pastry chef openly discussed his decision to get a hair transplant, expressing his desire for a ‘neater, more angular hairline similar to that of Kylian Mbappé’, the renowned French professional soccer player.

He too underwent a beard implant procedure and shared with his social media audience: ‘I’m genuinely thrilled about this transplant. The discomfort isn’t severe, and if it boosts your self-confidence, don’t delay.’
