In 2024, Brad Pitt spent a significant amount of time in the United Kingdom, where he filmed racing scenes on a track located in Northamptonshire. Here’s a fresh glimpse into the movie, as evidenced by the recently released Formula One trailer.
Known as “the one who could have been the best,” Sonny Hayes (played by Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1’s brightest prospect of the 1990s, until a track accident almost ended his career prematurely. Now, three decades later, he’s a freelance racer when Ruben Cervantes (portrayed by Javier Bardem), his former teammate and owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team on the brink of collapse, asks for his help. Convinced to return to FORMULA 1 for one final chance at greatness and being the best in the world, Sonny will race alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s rising star determined to pave his own path. However, as the engines ignite, Sonny realizes that in FORMULA 1, your teammate isn’t just a colleague—they are your fiercest rival, and the journey towards redemption is one you can’t embark on alone.
The movie is led by director Joseph Kosinski, who gained significant acclaim with Top Gun Maverick and delivered striking visuals that seem to be a repeat performance in the racing scenes. Kosinski oversaw the film’s production from a screenplay penned by Ehren Kruger, marking their second collaboration on the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. Brad Pitt, Joseph Kosinski, Jerry Bruckheimer, Dede Gardner, Lewis Hamilton, Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman are credited as producers for the film titled F1.
In a 2024 edition of Vanity Fair, Idris Elba reminisced, “On my left, there was Brad Pitt. On my right, Javier Bardem. My hands were trembling just looking at them,” he recollected about the first day on set. “We filmed a lot of grand scenes, and all the fantastic racers were present, including Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, among others.” It seems his excitement was palpable in this scenario.
