Fairy Tail Sequel Introduces Gray and Juvia’s Child (But There’s a Catch)

As a dedicated fan of Fairy Tail who’s followed Gray and Juvia’s story since its inception, I must say, it’s a bittersweet moment to see their child, Griege, debut in the latest episode of 100 Years Quest. The emotions are running high as we finally get a glimpse into the family life that many fans have been yearning for, but it’s hard not to feel a pang of disappointment that it’s not our beloved Gray and Juvia who are experiencing this joy.

The latest episode in the sequel anime series of “Fairy Tail”, titled Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, has introduced the child of characters Gray and Juvia, however, it’s disappointing news for those who ship them as a romantic pair. In this ongoing second cour of episodes, which is part of the Fall 2024 anime schedule, Natsu and the rest of the Fairy Tail guild have been grappling with their most significant challenges since the conclusion of the original series. However, one of the major points of contention remains the lack of romantic development between Gray and Juvia, despite fans’ expectations.

In contrast to the unresolved romantic feelings between Natsu and Lucy, which have been hinted at but never fully explored, fans are thrilled to see that Gray and Juvia’s love for each other is confirmed in the sequel series. Although their relationship has not progressed as fans might desire, the latest episode brings exciting news: a different version of Gray and Juvia have not only tied the knot, but also welcomed a child named Griege into their family.

Fairy Tail Debuts Gray and Juvia’s Child, Griege

In Episode 19 of Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, Gray and his companions are magically transported to the realm of Edolas due to a mishap with White Mage’s spell intended to bring them to her home world, Elentear. Instead, they find themselves back in this world devoid of magic, where it has been nine years since Natsu and the rest of the Fairy Tail members from Earth were last seen by the Edolas crew. A lot has transpired for each character during this time span.

Besides learning that Natsu and Lucy from Edolas got married and had a daughter named Nasha, we also discover that Edolas Gray and Juvia had a son named Greige. This new character bears a resemblance to both parents, primarily taking after Gray, but his eyelashes hint at traits inherited from Juvia. So, while this isn’t the Gray and Juvia we’re familiar with, at least there’s a parallel universe where they experienced the happy ending that Fairy Tail fans have longed for in terms of their romance.

Will Gray and Juvia Ever Get Together?

It appears that, despite the upcoming sequel, Gray and Juvia may never become an official couple within the main storyline of Fairy Tail. Although the creator has hinted at their union in some special sketches, it seems that this relationship will not be developed further in the main series. The characters have progressed significantly in the series finale, but the constant back-and-forth between them is so integral to the dynamic of Fairy Tail that a change in this dynamic may not occur.

Similar to Natsu and Lucy, the humorous mishaps in ‘Fairy Tail’ only thrive when the primary characters remain in their beloved roles. Characters like Gajeel and Levy, along with their intertwined relationships, can undergo significant growth that propels them forward. However, the central figures seem destined to reenact their recurring blunders to keep the storyline progressing. It’s possible that a resolution might surface when everything concludes for good, but considering no such change occurred during the original series finale, it may not materialize in the sequel either. Regrettably, these glimpses of unfulfilled potential are likely all we’ll ever witness.
