Following criticism from a co-host on “The View” about Anna’s casting in season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars”, the former inmate and con artist responded to the controversy by saying to Page Six on September 6th, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but it’s important to make sure your facts are correct.
In response to the 68-year-old’s remark that Anna, who was imprisoned for four years due to crimes she committed while pretending to be an heiress, still owes money to people, the 33-year-old stated, “I completed my sentence and fully repaid everyone more than three years ago.
To Whoopi, she added, “Looking forward to your on-air correction.”
But amid the criticism from fans and The View panelists she’s keeping her eyes on the prize, specifically the DWTS Mirrorball trophy. As Anna quipped, “Stay nasty ladies, but don’t forget to vote Sept. 17!”
The Inventing Anna subject was convicted of larceny in 2017 after allegedly posing as a German heiress and scamming thousands of dollars from New York’s elites to fund her luxurious lifestyle. She was later released on parole in 2021 only to be detained by ICE that same year amid possible deportation proceedings.
Anna, accompanied by her ankle monitor, will be participating in the popular dancing competition alongside dance partner Ezra Sosa, following approval from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for performances in Los Angeles. Earlier, she had been under house arrest in New York.
Following the reveal of the contestants for DWTS season 33 on September 4, there were questions from the hosts of The View as to why Anna was allowed to participate.
In a recent episode on September 5th, Whoopi mentioned families who’ve had relatives detained by ICE. She recalled how these families have resorted to court hearings in an attempt to retrieve their father, brother, or mother. The woman she referred to was granted permission for this action.
Sunny Hostin added, “I like a come up, but when are there consequences to people’s actions?”
