Falcom Pulls an Atlus, Announces a ‘Significantly Upgraded’ Version of Ys X: Nordics

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that I was taken aback by Falcom’s announcement of Ys X: Proud Nordics. Having played countless games over the years, I’ve come to expect a certain rhythm and pace from developers, especially those as prolific as Falcom.

Falcom unveiled Ys X: Proud Nordics, an enhanced edition of the latest release Ys X: Nordics. It’s not hard to imagine how enthusiastic fans are feeling!

Next year in Japan, the game Proud Nordics will debut, introducing a fresh narrative in an unfamiliar setting along with many novel components. As of now, the platforms for its release are undisclosed, but it’s anticipated that it will likely be available on the PlayStation 5.

As a gamer, I must mention that I finally got my hands on Ys X last month, which originally dropped in Japan way back in September 2023. It felt like an eternity waiting for this action RPG to make its way across the sea, but thankfully, it was published by NIS America not too long ago – around late October.

Considering the circumstances, the news about the upgraded relaunch might seem ill-timed, but it’s definitely a boost for those who originally purchased Nordics at full price.

For Falcom, it’s uncommon to relaunch a freshly minted game, given their regular yearly release pattern. Already, discussions drawing parallels to Atlus, a company notorious for its frequent re-releases, are popping up online.

It would be intriguing to find out if NIS America plans to release Proud Nordics in the West. Given that much of the localization work has been completed, it’s a possibility. However, they should exercise caution when making any announcements regarding the launch timeline.
