As a veteran gamer with over three decades of gaming under my belt, I can say with confidence that Fallout 76 has proven itself to be a game that just keeps on giving. It’s not every day that we see games evolve and expand as significantly as this one has since its launch in 2018.

It’s raining cats and dogs in West Virginia. Or at least, it will be by the end of the year.

During the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2024 presentation, Fallout 76’s creative director Jon Rush appeared to express gratitude towards Japanese gamers for their continued support. Moreover, he verified the speculations by announcing that animals, specifically cats and dogs, will be incorporated into Fallout 76 by year-end. Excitingly, these pets can now be anticipated to reside at players’ C.A.M.P.s, offering various interactive possibilities.

Rush mentions that they’ll reveal more details about pets in Fallout 76 as we approach the upcoming months, prior to the feature becoming available.

Fallout 76 continues to grow

Since its debut in 2018, it’s hard to overstate just how much progress Fallout 76 has made.

In various expansions, such as the latest Milepost Zero, questlines involving Non-Player Characters (NPCs) have been introduced. These new quests allow players to escort Brahmin caravans for unique rewards. This, along with other updates, has helped Fallout 76 surpass 20 million players since its initial release.

The game is expected to carry on flourishing into next year, extending past the introduction of pets, as Bethesda Game Studios is developing an upgrade enabling players to assume the role of Ghouls. This feature, which has been frequently demanded by fans, gains additional appeal due to the rising popularity of Walton Goggins’ character in the highly-acclaimed Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime Video, with a second season under development.

At the moment, you can play Fallout 76 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, as well as on Windows PC. Additionally, it is supported on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Notably, it’s also included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
