Family Guy, the long-running animated series, is proceeding into its Season 23 this coming Spring, and shockingly, one character has met their end, almost twenty years after first appearing. Discussing deaths in Family Guy can be intriguing as they handle them in varying ways; some pay tribute to the late voice actors like Adam West’s Mayor Adam West and Carrie Fisher’s Angela, while others serve as jokes or plot devices, such as Mr. Weed from earlier seasons. The recent demise falls into the latter category but remains a significant event nonetheless.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but get excited when “Family Guy” takes on popular shows like HBO’s “The White Lotus.” In an episode they titled “The Fat Lotus,” the Griffin clan and their pals embark on a luxurious vacation to Bermuda’s White Lotus resort, with hints from the start that one character has met an untimely end. The brief glimpse of a miniature coffin at the beginning leaves us guessing if it could be Stewie who’s departed, but it turns out to be Jeffrey, Bruce’s spouse, who was tragically torn apart by a shark!
Who Dies In Family Guy Season 23?
In the 13th episode of Season 23, titled “The Fat Lotus,” we find everyone shedding tears over a small coffin, lamenting the unfortunate demise. A week prior, Peter and the gang embark on a vacation to The White Lotus in Bermuda, where it turns out that Bruce and his partner Jeffrey are among the hotel guests. Although the narrative predominantly hints at Stewie becoming involved with Bruce, Jeffrey, and their new acquaintance Dennis, it’s clear that there will be some unexpected twist before the story reaches its conclusion.
Stewie suspects that Bruce and the group will toss him into a volcano, but they merely desired to snap a photo near it instead. During their voyage back to the hotel, Jeffrey’s disliked hat unexpectedly falls off his head. In pursuit of the hat, he leaps into the sea only to be attacked by a shark and fatally torn apart. The small coffin at the episode’s beginning turns out to be “Part 1 of 2,” as the second half of Jeffrey’s body receives its own coffin. This marks his death, which occurred nearly two decades following his initial mention in the series.
Who Is Jeffrey Anyway?
Initially heard only off-screen during Season 6’s “Lois Kills Stewie,” Jeffrey later echoed Bruce’s stunned responses for multiple seasons. However, he didn’t make a physical appearance until around Season 12. As Jeffrey was increasingly referenced throughout the show, his character grew more significant. Originally portrayed as a comical friend to Bruce, he eventually evolved into Bruce’s romantic interest. In the end, they formalized their bond by getting married in “Meg’s Wedding” during Season 19.
In a future episode of “Fertilized Megg”, the couple who requested Meg to act as their surrogate last season and lost one of them, Jeffrey, will reappear. It remains unclear if Jeffrey’s character has been permanently written off the show due to his history with Bruce, but given the series’ tendency to keep character deaths permanent (with some exceptions like Brian), it seems likely that this will be the case. As the storyline unfolds, Jeffrey is quickly replaced by another character, indicating that “Family Guy” may be signaling the end of their relationship. This could be seen as the show further cementing Jeffrey’s demise in not one but two symbolic coffins.
