Family Guy” is still on TV, showing fresh episodes from Season 23 all the way through Spring. The latest episode features a hilarious parody of popular Hulu series. Previously, Season 23 started off with a spoof of the Top Gun franchise, but it turns out that’s just one of many parodies we can expect this season. Sticking to its usual format of three short stories per episode, Peter introduces three distinct Hulu shows for “Family Guy” to imitate in this episode.
In “Family Guy” Season 23 Episode 10, titled “A Real Who’s Hulu,” the show creatively reimagines three popular streaming series on Hulu – “Only Murders in the Building,” “The Dropout,” and “The Bear.” Peter, the main character, even pokes fun at his lack of understanding about “The Bear” since he hasn’t watched it. Overall, it was a hilarious episode filled with clever twists on these well-known shows.
Family Guy Takes on Hulu’s Biggest Shows
In the first of the trio’s TV series, titled “Only Murders in the Building,” Stewie, Brian, and Meg collaborate to unravel a series of killings within their apartment complex. Interestingly, these deaths mirror those from the Jeffrey Dahmer storyline in Netflix’s Monster series. The show cleverly highlights that Hulu tends to be less graphic with violence compared to FX or Netflix productions, thus, often skipping murder scenes entirely. As a result, they launch a podcast and mistakenly accuse an innocent individual of the crimes. Sadly, this leads to Dahmer escaping justice (and eventually killing Stewie, Brian, and Meg).
In this new take, the second parody is centered around “The Dropout,” a miniseries portraying the downfall of Elizabeth Holmes (portrayed by Amanda Seyfried). Instead of the events depicted, Lois assumes the lead role with a modified voice and appearance. However, her invention isn’t about the medicine and tech industries; it’s a machine that identifies which “The Sopranos” character you are based on a single drop of blood. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long before she and the entire company are exposed for deceiving people, as their work is revealed to be fraudulent.
What’s Next for Family Guy?
In my perspective as an ardent enthusiast, the last short, titled “The Bear,” was a bit underwhelming compared to its counterparts. As I’ve never watched the original series, this parody seemed more like a wild guess about the show’s content rather than a direct take. It certainly referenced characters and visuals, but it failed to deliver a satisfying conclusion, leaving me yearning for more context to truly appreciate the jest. Frankly, Chris and I were left pondering if they could have just opted for another show adaptation instead.
It’s amusing to observe how Family Guy is tackling Hulu in this fashion, given that they frequently release special episodes exclusively on the streaming service and it also houses their entire archive. In fact, Family Guy intends to keep jabbing at various streaming platforms as it will continue airing new episodes throughout the summer, starting from Thursday, May 29th when Fox’s Animation Domination shifts its schedule from Sunday evenings to Thursdays. With four more seasons already confirmed, Family Guy shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
