As a long-time Marvel fan and avid comic book reader, I can’t help but be intrigued by the latest buzz surrounding the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, particularly the mysterious character of “Bob” played by Lewis Pullman. The internet is abuzz with theories about his true identity, with some speculating he might actually be The Sentry due to a peculiar sixth finger on the poster and his enigmatic persona in interviews.

The trailer for the movie Thunderbolts* unveiled a fresh poster on Monday morning, sparking speculation among fans that it might have been produced by an AI. Initially, everyone was wowed by the stunning visuals of the trailer, but soon enough, the focus shifted to a peculiar detail in the new poster – the hand of the character played by Lewis Pullman appeared to have six fingers instead of five. This anomaly led Marvel Studios’ investigators into a frenzy as they scrutinized the image, trying to determine if it was AI-generated. Many on the Internet are leaning towards the idea that it might just be a Photoshop error, given other inconsistencies in the poster design. For instance, limbs of other characters seem to be arranged in unusual groupings that don’t make much sense, but not in a way that screams AI-generated.

Delving deeper into the online discussion on Twitter, it seems some folks suspect my so-called ‘sixth finger’ might just be an elongated or clipped fifth digit due to peculiar design decisions. Others pointed out unusual arm positions in characters like US Agent, Red Guardian, and Ghost, hinting at some assembly process that may have skipped the labeling step during cleanup. Could it be a puzzle? Or is there a chance I truly possess an extra digit? The mystery deepens… but there’s another theory yet unexplored: what if this sixth finger is real after all?

The trailers for Marvel movies are known for making changes to the final film. A popular topic among fans about the Thunderbolts trailer is that Yelena Belova might be inside Avengers Tower on this mission. It’s intriguing to think why a group of anti-heroes or villains would be let loose within the former residence of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Could the person they are supposed to eliminate be the seemingly ordinary “Bob” portrayed by Pullman? The man, dressed in hospital garb, seems out of place in what appears to be a highly classified area. Additionally, one wonders about those objects dangling from the ceiling. Perhaps it’s just a hint at a future event rather than evidence of AI malfunction. We’ll have to wait until May 2025 for more information.

For Now, Lewis Pullman Is “Bob.”

Meanwhile, a heated discussion persists on Reddit and other social networking sites regarding minor details, yet Lewis Pullman’s initial appearance as the character Bob goes relatively unnoticed in an impressive manner. Despite much speculation about who will portray the character believed by many Marvel fans to be The Sentry, it was initially Steven Yeun who was chosen for the role of a “mysterious character.” However, due to scheduling issues, Pullman swapped his role in Top Gun: Maverick for a spot on Thunderbolts. As everyone strives to draw comments from the actor about his involvement in Marvel Studios’ upcoming ensemble film, Bob maintains a low profile and keeps out of the spotlight.

As a fervent admirer, I knew the question about the movie was bound to come eventually. To give us a taste of what’s to come with The Thunderbolts, Pullman graced the Happy Sad Confused podcast. However, he remained tight-lipped, revealing nothing. Yet, he couldn’t help but express his respect for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He understands that this undertaking is colossal, and there are secrets best kept hidden. (Given that those Marvel sharpshooters are always on the lookout, and at this point, they might be keeping a closer eye on him.)

In his words, he mentioned that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has always been something he’s immersed himself in, finding it almost unreachable yet captivating. He explained that being part of this universe is akin to joining television, where one hopes to embody a character they can inhabit for an extended period and contribute to a world they want to stay connected with.

Later on, Horowitz made another attempt to get Pullman involved. However, even presenting an actual image of Sentry from the comics didn’t prompt Kevin Feige to call Pullman yet, given the early stage of the process. “What a stunning costume,” Pullman remarked, admiring the hairdo. He then steered the conversation towards his desire for the power to transform if he could have a real-life superpower. Horowitz playfully hinted at Sentry having those abilities in the film by joking about a confirmation.

Regarding Sentry, Pullman admitted he hasn’t delved into it yet. It seems to be a new concept for him, as he’s not familiar with it. From what he has gathered from comic books, Sentry appears to have characteristics reminiscent of a cunning shape-shifter or a serpentine entity.

I’m curious about what seems to be happening with Sentry’s sixth finger. Take a look at all the chatter about it in pop culture over at @ComicBook!
